One of my winter secrete weapons is a black head/varigated blk/wht chenille with grey squirrel tail . No frills like eyes or noth'in .I keep the tail no longer than the shank of the hook and not real full . Specially good if a light snow is peppering the water . That jig will do the same for you . Put a drop of anise oil on the first few wraps of thread before you finish off the jig .

Tying squirrel is fun and a nice change from calf and bucktails. What type of squirrel are the red tails? We have chipmunks in my area, these are sinilar in color but much smaller than your picts. In the Northern half of NY state they also have black squirrels. I always wanted to get a few of those tails.

Those are red squirrels from central IL. We have a ton and are easier to hunt than the grays. Grays never stop moving and are smaller for skillet time!

Toad frog....anise oil? I use that for catfishing inside some custom cheese bait.....what is your thought?

Anise oil is all around good stuff . So is W-D 40 . Takes very little and lasts a long time for either one .Up side is you won't smell like something dead if ya get a little on you .
Grey tails are the bomb for dying . I have 2 coon tails and four squirrel tails curing now . Almost ready for the dye bath .
