Friend of mine got this on his trail cam...... what do you think?

At first glance i thought bobcat by what looks like the ear shape (on the left) and shape of the back. But if that is the head at the left, the tail wouldn't be right. Badger maybe?

Pretty tough to tell because of where the sun is, the color is almost completely gone off the animal and shadowed. I tried 'enhancing' the photo but that did not help. Probably just a raccoon and standing at an odd angle. ha! It is the same picture, just zoomed and cropped the 2nd one.

I would have it take a dirt nap and then find out.....all they do is eat the animals I want to hunt! Tail maybe a good material for ties!

At first glance I thought it was a lynx, but it doesn't have the right ears. Maybe a juvenile bobcat? Feral cat would be a good guess but then how would you explain the short tail?

I'm going to go with Domestic Cat. The tail is "short", because it's pointed almost straight at the camera, then angles off to the right and up a bit.

Talked to him a little about it..... he said that the pic was taken on Feb. 23 and had snowed again by the time he got out and pulled the pics off the camera, so tracks were gone. He also said that the feed is a 50lb bag of corn dumped out and estimated it might be a 24"-30" circle of corn. If the corn is a 30" diameter circle..... that would be one LARGE domestic cat.

His camera is set up pretty close to his house. He shot a massive 10pt buck with his crossbow back in November and has had some other big deer on the trail cam along with a few coyote.

AF, has your buddy tried to get any of those coyotes? Coyote fur makes great tailing material...... Just sayin' :)

Not sure if you are or buddy is into trapping but if you get a "dog" trap and our little friend puts in a paw.......held till your return vs a 110 conibear or 220 which generally is a quick kill. Both ways are how we catch coons here in Illinois on trap lines
