I woke up early this morning and headed out to go do some bluegill fishing at a conservation lake close to Jefferson City, MO. I was driving down the highway just enjoying a song on the radio and drove right past my turn off. Long story short I had to make a detour and made a big loop through town. I ended up stopping by a completely different lake. One I haven't fished in a Long time. Last time I was there the water level was way way down and the fishing was crap. The water is back up to where it used to be and the Bluegills are thriving again. I caught 19 gills and a channel cat in a little over an hour. Was fishing about three foot deep along the sides of some trees that had fallen in the water. Caught about half of the gills and the cat on one of my turkey jigs. The rest I caught on a couple variations of an Auto Style and crickets. They liked the No-weight fly version better than the ones I tied on jigheads. I'm glad I stopped by this lake. I had a blast. And just for a bonus....When I got back to the truck a young boy about eight years old ran over to look at my basket of fish. I ended up talking to him and his parents for a bit. Gave them a couple jigs and some crickets. I watched him catch three bluegill why I put my stuff in the truck. Kid gave me a thumbs up as I left. Made My Day Even Better. :icon14:
Sometimes detours are good.
