As related in the muskie/pike section below, "wig jigs" have caught literally thousands of nice northern pike, muskies, and bass for my plumber (who first developed them years ago- I did a feature article in the old Fishing Facts mag on them) and me. The trick is to get wigs with very limp hair(or real human hair!!) and tie them long-very whippy on a jump type retreive! I've also tied 3 inch ones for smallmouth & crappies, and some shorter if I tie very thin (and use pinches of real hair from my wife's haircuts!).Recently ,famed flytier Bob Clouser (
www.clouserflies.com) found some commercial fly tying hair that he laughingly described as "basic wig hair" (looks like the same wig material as I've used!) and tied a few flies up to 12" long with it -on a recent week long trip to Canada he took dozens of pike over 40 inches on it!
