Are you palmering or using hackle Vs for tails?

I use Whiting bugger packs for palmering and saltwater neck hackle for the tail.

Talking tails.....have not quite figured out how to make the v's for tails. Bucko I have tried neck and they do seem to work also. Always driving for the best jig for the job of filling the freezer!

For tails the length of the feather and the length of the barbules are more important than where the feather came from on the chicken. Cheap saddle and neck hackle has short feathers so you end up using more than one feather per jig unless you're tying REALLY small. You may not get the length you want in the barbules either.

Saltwater neck hackle and Chinese saddle hackle feathers are more expensive per pack, but the feathers are much bigger with longer barbules.

This may help you with the "V's" in the tail... It did me!

Mainly neck hackle here...I can use the tips, and strip the longer barbs to make multiple jigs from one feather...Never really got into the v's..Id rather strip the loose fibers.

Got the salt water hackle in......Using the v cut system works. Thanks all for a new idea and how to use. Applications are always unique based on the jig!

More than one way to skin a cat (wonder where that saying came from). Haven't tried leaving the tip in - crappie style - should work.
