Thank you quint for all the tying materials you sent me!
He sent me multiple chenilles, hackles, marabou, flashabou/krystal flash, peacock herl, all the tying tools, including 3-4 bobbins, whip finish, etc.

The tools are so much smaller than i expected. I have tied 2 jigs so far.

Quint also sent me over 100 jigheads, about half with collars, half without.

I will get pics tomorrow of the jigs i have tied up to that point.

1 thing i thought would be easy but isnt is whip finishing! i cant seem to figure out how to do it without the thread slipping, or getting the thread caught in the eye.

so far i think i have done good. the first jig i tried i forgot a tail, and i tried a peacock body. the peacock seems thinner than it looks on video. i have to use 3-4 pieces of it to build up a good body.

any tips would be appreciated!!!

That is awesome!! My hat's off to you Quint :icon14::icon14: You will find that there are many tyers that are willing to pay it forward to new tyers. Congrats on all the materials you received.:)

Peacock herl is best to use on flies and it would be wise to save it for later use after you have tied for awhile. It's like having horseshoes without a horse. In time once you get use to working with chenille you will understand how to handle the herl.

The whip finisher isn't easy for some and others picks up on it quickly. Take your time with it and it will come to you. If I can find the time I'll make a video on how to use the whip.

he is an excellent guy indeed. I can now do the whip finisher with ease! I have tied about 20 so far, and i even taught my sister to tie! she has done 2. and they look spiffy. I can do hackle quite easily. so far, ive only had to dismiss 1 jig. I can only tie 2 or 3 at a time, because looking down makes my upper back sore. And I'm 15!!! I think he helped me out cause, i mean, who doesnt want young people to get into the hobby!
I may have to make a trip to the craft shop to pick up some stuff. My vise is broken at the c-clamp, and im gonna have to get some glue.
I have 3 local crafty stores, so i have plenty stuff to choose from. I already got into my moms yarn to make dubbing. It works well.

Next i think ill have to pick up some other things that i thinkll be good. for jig tying. I think so far i have improved a bit. Quint sent at least 150 heads to tie with.

I didnt think i would like the sickle hooks, but man are they sharp looking, as well as really sharp. i have been poked at least 13 times!

i got a chance to see what a few of em looked like wet when i spilt koolaid on em. You think the fish will like cherry? (only kidding, i rinsed em out.)

Your welcome young man , glad you are enjoying it . This will sound funny at first , but one very important item for your tying table is your " chair " it can make or brake a tier . Next is lighting , you need to be able to see your work . I have a 9.00 clamp desk lite w/60w GE Reveal bulb mounted directly above the vise , it does a awesome job of lighting . True colors and no shadows . Got any questions , there's lots of answers here . Welcome to the addiction !

Well my chair is ok. might want to get a new one.

Lighting is good, if i need to use it, i have a lamp.

I will need a new vise, however.

When i can find batteries to go in the camera, i will post pictures of what i have created thus far.

Where did you get the smaller jigheads you sent me? i found they are perfect for bream bugs.

Thanks, and i am sure i will have more questions as i continue.

I most definitely agree with having a good supporting chair. I often sit at the vise for 8 hours straight. that would be impossible without a good chair. also having a solid color backdrop, I use white, will help too.

I have a two sided backdrop I made. One side is white and the other side black. A contrasting back drop helps my eyes on long sessions see the detail more. It isn't a necessity, but helps me. Totally optional.

makes since. ill look into it. i already hae a good functional storage cabinet. it is one of the smaller 3 drawer plastic shelves. i have feathers in top, synthetics in middle, thread and tools in bottom. i need another for jigheads, but itll have to wait. if my mom picks up some batteries, ill get pics today.
