What a fun day! we had a big mother's day gathering at the park with both sides of my family. After a lot of visiting and devouring large quantities of food I grabbed my poles out of the truck and walked down to the lake. Tied on prolly the simplest little jig in my bag. A 1/32 plain lead head with grey chenille wrapped to the bend but no tail. tipped it with a crappie nibble and Bam I caught a big ol Gill on the first cast. Then one of my little nieces (6 yr old) ran over to me and started asking me about fishing. I taught her how to hold the pole and how to reel and how to set the hook. I casted it out for her and she started slowly reeling in the float and jig. Next thing ya know Bam the float is gone and she does a bill dance hookset and started reeling like crazy. Her eyes lit up and was just ecstatic about catching her first fish. Her mom was just as excited. She caught two more crappie and three small gills almost in a row after that. Lil girl is a natural! My little nephew (4 yr old) was able to catch his first fish as well ( lil rock bass ) He is a little Awnry and I'll be honest was waiting for him to throw my pole in the water but he did good. I only caught one fish but I enjoyed teaching these kids and watching them catch 7 fish just as much as if I would of caught fifty myself.
