You all know i go a little wacky when i get a vision in my head... you might have seen some of my other 'inventions' if you can call them that. It is always fun to solve an issue on your own with common everyday materials, just takes a little imagination sometimes. I will not be offended if you take your IG-NOR-IT-ALL and just move on to the next thread.
My Issue: When i tap powder on to jigs, i hold the jig up above the jar and try to tap so any excess powder that misses the jig falls back into the jar. Yeah right..... always miss with a bunch of it so i put down a sheet of paper to catch it just for easy clean up. Never tried to reclaim it off the paper just because there ends up being dust, cobwebs, spiders, paint chips and other garbage on the paper also. So all that powder that ends up on the table pretty much gets pitched.
My Solution: I used 8.5 x 11 printer paper, scissors & tape to make a custom funnel for powder jars. #1: Started with an octogon shape 6" x 6". Put a .75" diamater circle in the center with a single line extending from the center point to the center of one of the outside lines. Made this on my computer and printed out 5 copies. #2: Cut out the octogon, cut along the line to the center and then cut out the center circle. #3: Overlap where you cut the center line untill the first two corners line up and tape it together. Sould look like the picture #4. Most normal people might stop there, set it on top your powder jar and it will catch alot more excess powder and you can still put a brush through the hole in the center to load your brush again.....

Of course i am not quite right so my poor brain keeps spinning its proverbial tires. This set of steps has another purpose that i will get to in the last set of pictures.... i promise. #5: Roll a sheet of paper until you have a paper tube that measures just a little over .75" in diameter and tape along its seam so it stays a tube. Cut off a section of the paper tube about 1.5" long. #6 & #7: Flip the funnel over and attach the paper tube to the bottom.... using more tape of course. #8: Finished product..... i did not have a jar of powder paint handy at work so you will have to use your imagination.

......and i'm still not done yet!!! #9: Have some 1.5" plastic tubes that i use as little paint cups sometimes so i don't have to have the entire jar of a color out and open. Already tipped one over once - not a pretty sight. #10: Insert the paper tube into the plastic tube... but it is top heavy. #11: Fashion some legs for paint cup from sheet aluminum and electrical tape. #12: DONE.

I know someone is gonna ask so i better give some explaniation........ My job consists of some days filled with absolutely mindless work, as was the case this morning. I change one line of text on my software program and push a button that can take 10-15 minutes to complete the job. By the 3rd piece into the order, i had everything ready and lined up to start the next piece for the entire order... of 26! So i had some time on my hands. Will see how it works tonight but am 110% sure it will work. I have a paper funnel i have been using but it is of a much more crude design...... it will feel like i am driving a Ferrari now.
