My dad does quite a bit of pokin around in Antique shops and flea markets. I told him to keep an eye out for cool wooden Fly/jewelry/tool boxes with small drawers. He told me the other day he found one and would give it to me for my birthday. I was thinkin well you could of surprised me with it. :) Well The surprise came when I opened the drawers and realized it was somebodies fly fishing box packed full of Glo-bugs, flies, hooks and other tackle and tools. What I found cool about it was after a little research that it was owned by a guy who lived local and was an avid tier and fly fisherman. He was A regular at Bennet Spring State Park. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 91. From the sounds of it he fished well into his eighties.

Your find is a gem. Is that a magnetic Perrine Fly Box I see? Bifocals/Trifocals in the glasses case? Hook hone? Stringer tagged with name and address of the former owner/angler in the background (A requirement of MO Ozark trout streams as I recall)?

All you need now are some Luck-E-Strike trout worms. ;)

Way cool.

What a awesome gift!!! I don't think I would be able to use any of it as it would become a display in my tying room.

I was thinking the same thing as StumpHunter, I'm not sure I would be able to use it either, that box with everything in it has a history and energy all its own, what a great display piece it would make but then to the previous owner probably would want that box to go to good use which is how you probably came to have it, I believe in karma like that.

That is a true Find .... Bet "American Pickers" would be jealous of that one.
I would not doubt that it was old when this gentleman got it as it looks like its from an older generation than a young 91 year old ... :) ... So far --- not to many problems fishing into your 80's :)

Yeah I'm kinda thinking its all going to go on display in my collection. What is really cool is that this was not his tying box it was one of his tackle boxes he took with him fishing. I don't know if he made it but it is home made. it looks like it originally had another piece of wood on hinges that covered the drawers. Ya know I would like to think that my fishing stuff will stay in my family and be passed down from my sons to their kids and so on not only to be treasured but used. If any of my stuff would end up in an Antique store some day I just hope that whoever acquired it would appreciate it and enjoy it regardless if they used it or not. I'm pretty sure that there will be a few of his flies go in one of my boxes and used to catch some trout.
