Got out yesterday afternoon (glad i didn't stick around to watch the Browns) from 1:00-4:30 after my usual Sunday morning chores were done. Headed to the local 'fishbowl' with some fresh caught baby bluegill from my pond. Original intention was to find crappie suspending in the middle or maybe some yellow perch hugging the bottom. Not happening.

But...... saw pods of bluegill roaming near the surface. Left one rod with deep bobber set about 4' down with a tiny bluegill as bait and worked the rising fish with my other rod..... 1/64oz. black/orange kiptail jig and tiny float attached for casting.

Brought home 7 bluegill that all measured over 8" so worth cleaning and an appetizer on the grill one night. Candy would have liked to go but would not have made it down the rocks too gracefully. Did help me clean them tho.

Could not beat the weather - mid 60's with partly sunny skies. 80+ acres all to myself, not another single angler.

Did catch a nice dark colored smallmouth on the tiny jig and 2 channel cats on the bait/bobber. Not much of a report, but fun day and enough action to keep me busy.

Sounds like serenity and the pics speak volumes of what I don't know. The smallmouth is gorgeous and your pup… I'm jealous. People with pets to share life with are blessed.
Really great report and I'm grateful. Made my night.

Hard to beat the time spent on or at the lakes and rivers. Even with a slow day it just does something for the soul. Thanks for sharing the report and pics.

Lost Pole - More sight and sound fishing for the bluegills than anything. Keep your eyes and ears looking for splashes or swirls and then cast to them. Most of the small fish hold tight to the rocks and the bigger fish tend to stay out right at the edge of your longest possible cast. Pretty much no structure in this lake (other than the rock shoreline) and the fish don't stay in one place long.

StumpHunter - Indeed very good for the soul. Even getting out and stomping through the woods clears the mind. With deer (archery) and squirrel seasons open now though, have to watch so you don't screw up somebodies chance at dinner.

Hawnjigs - One of the two would have been good eating size... maybe 16-18 inches. Wife and kids complain about the 'fishy' taste of catfish so i don't bring singles home. If i had caught five or six that size, that would have been enough to get me interested in running a batch through the smoker. There are some monster cats living in this lake!

CrappieHappy, Radtexan - It was a beautiful day...... at one of my favorite quiet places.
