Plate I have to agree, and feel satin on TINY jigs is almost vital due to the flash & constant wiggling action. We ALWAYS catch nice 'gills while vertical jigging our smaller satin/wool jigs for crappies over deeper humps, and it's almost scary to fish the 1/80 to 1/32 oz versions in emerging shallow weedbeds in spring -bluegills show a real hunger for jiggling , "ALIVE" swimming satin ! Don't even dare throw them into a fertile farm pond, unless you want sore wrists,arms , and shoulders from playing the hard fighting panfish on almost every cast!

I got a bit of satin a few weeks ago, but haven't tried tying with it yet. Still trying to find some wool roving. Hobby Lobby is out-of-stock in White.....

I may have to forget the wool and just use some satin after jiggerjohn's report

Allen, A superb substitute for the wool underbody is the white "batting" material, used in bedding and quilts (and lots of it around from snowy Christmas displays right now!). Red Denmark himself showed me the batting that his wife had brought home, he now using it exclusively instead of wool for the thousands of jigs he's tying over winter. It is pure, "bright" white(actually enhances any satin color) and ties easier than wool, plus from personal experience, fish love jigs tied with a batting minnow-like body (very easy to hand shape this material) with any favored color satin strand siding.

What are all the materials and amounts in the jigs. Looks like some satin and possibly a material like flashabou. I assume the underbody is wool. It appears the wool is totally covered and used strictly to shape the body. My eyes are not what they were. Thanks, Pop

Top jig has more material from JoAnn fabric. You need to find a fabric store and makes some friends by telling them you want to make jigs (satin). The material name is slipping me for the sides. I normally lay that on outside and inside pending on design. No wool in center for these. I tie first on the back with good pinch and roll around the hook. I then take a pinch on both sides. If I do not have enough fill I will rotate over and place another pinch. The trick is to not put big pinch otherwise the necks will not look right.
Same concepts for a woollie. You need to make sure you a good body on the woollie all around the wool. I have some pics in the jig pics from last year. More questions or need help send me a PM.
