TV Showing a lot of rain and some wind ... Looks like a few trees might get pruned and hope you needed the rain.

I know that being out of power can be a pain.

Gee guys, thanks for the concern. Our area was hit hard with downed trees and trashed overhead infrastructure. Almost 2 weeks with no power or phone and no word of when. Water no prob with a full catchment and have my propane lead burner to heat bath water & food. Free bags of ice daily at a distribution point in our subdivision Nanawale "Estates". Bucket of water in the toilet tank works.

Yup, Ogallala and Lake McConaughy in Sept. Might have to ask for advice on surviving a mainland winter.

OK, public computer at our library, better get off.

Glad to hear you are getting by but didn't know your area took so much damage. After looking at your location on the map..... i'm betting your side of the island must usually take the brunt of the storms.

Keep that bucket in the toilet tank trick up your sleeve for when you loose power for a week during a winter ice storm. Done it a few times. Also need a spud bar or ice chisel to break open the ice on the pond to dip out the water. :)

Yay, got power & phone back late Friday. Quote Elvis: "you don't know what you got until you lose it"

Our son in Napa CA called at 3:30 this morning to tell us their 6.0 quake knocked out power and made a mess with stuff falling inside their home. They drove over to see if grandpa Harry was OK cross town since he wasn't answering his phone. He was in his driveway eating ice cream.

Forgot to mention, we really appreciate the utility repair crews, most imported with equipment from other islands, getting us up and running and a major National Guard presense to discourage looting.

Community response was outstanding. Anyone of us with chainsaws were out at first light clearing roads and during the ensuing weeks those who could would prepare pots of hot food for free distribution. On the other end, some looters apparently rented a U-Haul truck and helped themselves to the misfortune of others before the Guard could mobilize.

Lost power for two weeks but local Civil Defense, National Guard, and volunteers were awesome setting up ice, drinking water, & even some food distribution posts. The area damage was pretty cataclysmic due to windfall trees, luckily our house was spared.

Then, it was off to Nebraska, where I only got to spend 1 day sight unseen buying what turned out to be best described as a Hillbilly shack, no offense to anyone, which was all I could afford. Have to fly back to Hawaii today to help my Sweetie evacuate our house.
http://khon2.com/2014/09/19/lava-flow-expected-to-reach-pahoa-in-9-10-days/

Our home is far enuf away from the direct path of the flow, but the main road soon to be overrun with lava is the only in/out access. Two of the abandoned roads being renovated are only a temporary reprieve which will probably be overrun since the usual downhill to the sea lava flow route will eventually crosse them too. The third option is a looong drive around the entire Puna district including a steep 4,000 ft climb from sea level thru the Volcano National Park that will require excavating maybe a half mile of fairly recent lava flow for passage + Natl. Park red tape.

if anyone wants to chance it, there might be some real estate bargains hitting the market soon. Even now, Cathie mentioned that for sale signs are popping up. Eventually, this flow will probably stop and when it cools down the road will be restored.
