Lost power for two weeks but local Civil Defense, National Guard, and volunteers were awesome setting up ice, drinking water, & even some food distribution posts. The area damage was pretty cataclysmic due to windfall trees, luckily our house was spared.
Then, it was off to Nebraska, where I only got to spend 1 day sight unseen buying what turned out to be best described as a Hillbilly shack, no offense to anyone, which was all I could afford. Have to fly back to Hawaii today to help my Sweetie evacuate our house.

Our home is far enuf away from the direct path of the flow, but the main road soon to be overrun with lava is the only in/out access. Two of the abandoned roads being renovated are only a temporary reprieve which will probably be overrun since the usual downhill to the sea lava flow route will eventually crosse them too. The third option is a looong drive around the entire Puna district including a steep 4,000 ft climb from sea level thru the Volcano National Park that will require excavating maybe a half mile of fairly recent lava flow for passage + Natl. Park red tape.
if anyone wants to chance it, there might be some real estate bargains hitting the market soon. Even now, Cathie mentioned that for sale signs are popping up. Eventually, this flow will probably stop and when it cools down the road will be restored.
