Went out for a quick trip this AM knowing it would rain. Rain gear all Tested and ready, Reels respooled. Tackle check complete, Tackle Box(s) clean and neatly organzied.

Fishing river below damn for saugeye/sauger. Tied on a 3/8 oz white on white bucktail with blue collar. Sent it on its way. 1-2-3, snap, 1-2-3 whoa, there it goes, quick hook set and thought I was snagged. Line started moving against the current so Fish on. 4# Saugeye nice and fiesty I just knew he wanted a piece of me. But released as I dont like keeping first fish of the day. Superstition from way back!

Cast #2, Snag
Rety a second jig
repeat of cast #2
While retying third jig, Boom and looked up to see lightening strike about 1/2 mile away. Fishing trip over and headed to the car.

Still raining, still hear thunder and every once in a while see a flash of lightening. I'll fishing in about any condition but do my best to avoid lightening. Wind rain and snow are bad enough but they just make you a bit uncomfortable. Lightening and ruin your day as well as those that care about you.

Be safe and hope your first cast is FISH ON.

I don't blame you for ending the trip early, safety first. I had a trip over 20 years ago when fish were tearing it up while it was pouring, me under a big tree. Lightning struck tree maybe 40 yards from me, I started praying, packed up and got out of there alive. Now, if I see it I'm gone.
