Curious that the perfection of that shape is...comforting?

A friend back in HI just sent me this pic taken at the annual Lantern Festival. Some cultures, Asian I'm familiar with, use candle flames for honoring those that went before. In HI, weather permitting, little rafts with a shielded candle are floated out to sea via the outflowing current in the Ala Wai Canal and prevailing offshore breezes.

This pic, one of several similar, speaks for itself. The floating lanterns are visible far in the background. Blowing bubbles are not part of the ceremony, & you might guess that HI never snows at sea level.

Here's what Wendy, who took the pic, has to say:

"I was shooting pics with the flash and captured spots on my photos. I kept wiping my lens because I thought maybe it got wet from ocean spray because I walked along the ocean earlier. The spots are not in the same place on the photos so it wasn’t the lens. Anyway, it was explained to me that these are orbs (or spirits) that are captured with a flash. How appropriate since this was a Memorial Day service and people were thinking of their loved ones who have passed."
