I just finished these for a local angler, the top one is "Royal Gill" and the bottom one is "Lustful shad", and I know the second name is lame but there are too many sexy shads! Anyway, these are all powder coated using a hobby sandblaster to spray the powder, there isn't any detail but you can't do fine detail with powder but you can blend colors and I believe fine detail doesn't have any advantage on a spinnerbait which is why I chose to powder paint them.

Smalljaw, you rock with your spray gun and powder paint. I really like that first one, but then again something about "Lustful Shad" intrigues me. Job well done.

Thanks guys, I should have taken a picture before the epoxy because the royal gill looks like it has a lump on the head and the lustful shad looks like a messed up chartreuse line. Trust me when I say neither is as it seems, for some reason my old camera needs a ton of light to work and with having so much light it really reflected off the epoxy clear coat and made some weird effects but it was good enough to show the limitations of spraying powder. The royal gill is a different version of an bluegill color I do, this one uses more purple and instead of metallic chartreuse I use a metallic gold with orange as well as candy blue and a quick hit of black. BTW those two colors are the ones I do most often as they seem to work excellent in clear or mildly stained water and with the cooler weather the algae isn't blooming on the water and everything is clearing up so these colors will now be the norm for at least another 2 weeks and then the jigs will be king again.

Very nice work.

I have to go check out Harbor Freight, was told they have a distribution hub for airbrushing. You can hook up like 5 different guns at the same time to one pump. Would you be using something like that right now?

I've seen a few different hubs for using multiple guns but it would serve a purpose for me. I actually have a system that allows me to change colors really fast if I'm only doing a few baits. I have different length pick up tubes for the gun, these different lengths are for different powder jars, rather than attach the gun to the jar and spray I simplyput the tube into the paint and hold the gun and jar in my hand without securing the jar to the gun, I then spray a color and then put the color down and grab the next color and do the same only spraying out the previous color to clear the tube before using the new color. I had this down pretty good before retailers began offering spray guns for powder, I was having a tough time doing the paint brush tap method that Cadman is so good at, I was getting frustrated to the point of going back to vinyl and then looking for a new airbrush I spotted the badger hobby sandblaster and thought that would work for applying powder and so thats how I began using it but after a few months I started seeing websites offering a powder airbrush. I thought about using a hub with 2 or 3 guns but I'm quick enough with the system I got now that it wouldn't help but thanks anyway.

That's great painting! Have always loved airbrushing, maybe cause grew up when we had our surfboards airbrushed! Couple of my mates used to get their boards shaped by legend Terry Fitzgerald and his boards usually featured crazy cosmic airbrushes by the famous Marty Worthington.

Google marty worthington surfboard airbrushes.

Smalljaw, what about "Sensual Shad"? ;)

Using the gun do you lose much powder to overspray??

Thanks guys, Fatman, I have a mini spray booth I made out of a box my work boots came in, and I made a little clip that lets me hang plastic grocery bags on the back of the box. What I do is I keep a bag for each color I'm going to use and I hang the bag in the back of the box, spray the first color on all the baits I'm doing and when I move to the next color I switch bags. I do lose some to overspray but not a lot once I got a system down and the most I lose now is when I'm only doing a couple of baits then I'll just let the paint hit the back of the box and fall to the bottom, all the reclaimed paint goes into 1 container labeled pot luck and after I get it filled 1/2 way I shake it real good and see what color comes out.
