I wanted to do some heavier Marabou Skunks for the river. Painted up some of Plateboater's Pillheads and tied them up.

I like the simplicity of those. Thanks for showing us. I can think of all sorts of colour variations which should do well over here too. Although I do like a pink fly. It's a colour which always seems to attract the perch.

Interested to hear how you get on testing them.

Those sure look good! Really like the twisted feathers, need to try that technique myself. Have you ever tried doing a rib across the twisted marabou? Seems like it might help to keep the feather solid after some wear and tear. Looks like those are finished at the back end too, so that may change how you would lock down a counter wrapped wire ribbing. Don't mind me, just thinking out loud............ :jig:

Not at all!

I've done the "rope-dubbed" thing for marabou with LOTS of flies and jigs. I've got a buddy in NC that has a BUNCH of jigs with rope-dubbed marabou. He says they are incredibly durable. He's even caught a grass pickerel with one, and the jig didn't suffer any damage. Now, constant catching from toothy fish is another thing. However, those jigs hold up very well against Bluegill, my buddy's target fish, and they will flat out tear up flies and jigs!

Heck, adding a wire rib just adds another color dimension. I might have to try it, just to see what they'd look like!

If we end up doing what SWMBO says, and move back up to Michigan, then I'll have ample opportunity to test rope-dubbed marabou jigs against many different toothy fish. Pike, pickerel, Walleyes, Yellow Perch, etc.....
