I'm almost positive its a copperheaded-cottonmouthed-diamondback..............cobra. With that 50/50 dangerous chance, i'd have examined it from a far! Did you catch it or was it a surprise in that barrel?

Beautiful snake, makes me think maybe it was a pet at one point. JungleJim just might have a better answer than mine.

Buddy that sure looks like a clear water copper head . Best you don't take any chances . The only thing that makes me wonder is the venom sacs aren't well pronounced . In any case the only good snake is the one 100 yards or better away . Gives me time to do the other hundred yards in the opposing direction .

Thx TF. But I did my homework bf handling. Took a bit of work bc he was so small.
Thx y'all.
It's funny my grandma, who won't let me pluck a few squirrels or trash scattering coons, wanted it dead on the spot. That's just not me. Rather be smart dumba**.

Eastern watersnake, head is oval, they are beautiful snakes, you can tell if a snake is venomous by the head except for a few different species but the most accurate way is the pupil, venomous snakes have a vertical pupil like a cat, non poisonous have round pupil.
