Simple Silver Hair Minnows For Bass

sbmnw001.jpg

Materials:
  • 5/32-oz. ball head jigs with #2 bronze hooks.
  • Darice Craft Fur - silver (not gray or gray/silver).
  • Black UTC Ultra Thread - 70 and 140 denier.
  • Silver and/or chrome paint for head - the type is your choice (jig head is epoxy covered).
  • Black and white acrylic paint for eyes.
  • 5-minute two-part epoxy for jig head top coat.

This is one of my favorite hair jig designs for fall bass fishing in clear water. These are effective swimming jigs that are about 3.5-3.75 inches long.

Two questions, Pup:
1. Do you get many short strikes with that long a tail?
2. How do you get that perfectly tapered tail?

Hawnjigs,
When bass fishing these, I rarely encounter short strikes. Occasionally, bluegill or other panfish do nip at them. The taper is a result of combing the fur and then running it through my thumb and forefinger.

Here are a couple of 1/4-oz. versions with 1/0 hooks that I tied last night.

Very nice looking minnows Pup. You sure do have the craft fur patterns down. I have tried tying the craft fur without much success. Yours look fantastic!!
