I used a Hummingbird 798 SI exclusively for the last year that I was in Arizona. It was on my buddies boat and just mystified me everytime that we went. You could see shad balls under water and just stay with them and catch fish all day.At $1100 it should do everything that it did, lol.

Bruce how was the screen size on that? I mean can you really see the side views on that small screen! You can get last years 798 for under $800.

You could see it very well, even in that intense sunlight. It was a 5 1/2" by 7 1/2" screen I believe. At night with the lights on it was like watching the Dicovery Channel.

Fishing with the Magnolia Crappie Club, I'm at a big disadvantage by not having a side imaging unit. These guys can go out there and find submerged brush tops and even see if they are holding fish. I'm gonna get one eventually.

Ahem Mr Ron Don. I have owned side finding humminbirds since they first came out. Right now I own the 987 C , 997 C and the 797C. The 987C is mounted on my 13' skiff the other two are in my 16' starcraft.I won't go on the water without one now. Fought with myself for a long time before I bought the first one. They do make a heck of a difference in the way you fish.

No matter how well you know your favorite lake these units will show you something you did not know. If some certain jig maker that I order from was really set on one he might be able to pry the 987C off of me for some jigheads and quite a few dollars. But still better deal than can find elsewhere.
But will get a 7 inch screen instead of 5 inch screen. The 987 does the SI , DI and 2D. If interested this certain Jig maker could PM for specifics. In fact give me your phone no# in PM and I will wax poetic on the virtues of these machines.

Now before anyone asks yes you can get skunked with these machines I have done that already. But I must say my fishless days are fewer and further between. These take a little longer learning curve to make them work for you. But the time .effort and money is a good investment.

I don't want to reveal this jigmakers name but his intials are RONDON lol

Don't worry Salty I will take it easy on the lad. I can't afford to lose him as a supplier. I like his stuff too much.
