I have had good luck with Sally hansens hard as nails. I have heard people sealing with flexament, and 2 & 3 part clear epoxy from the hobby store. I am sure other more experienced tyers will reply soon....

Sally's seems to turn yellow over time when applied over chartreuse powder paint. Clear vinyl lure finish does good though. I use Sally's a lot though.

I use to coat over the eyes with SH when i painted, but notice with powdrrpaint that its too slick for the eye adhesive to adhere. I have been putting a small dab of ch in the eye sockets and then applying the eyes. This seems to be bullet proof, but time will tell.

Thanks for the info Scott & Ronny....

I have a question or two about this clear top coating subject. In the past I used CS clear coat, which worked excellent, or Sally Hansens. I found the nail polish will attack powder paint and smear it abit. Anyone else? I recently found in the hobby store, in the jewelry section, some top coat/varnish called triple thick. Seems like a thick version of the CS. I experimented a little and so far so good. I especially like how it finishes the thread wraps on jigs and makes the glitter really pop. Anyone else see, heard of or used this triple thick? Cleans up with water and has no smell so to speak.

Holy cow AZ where ya been??!!

I thought the same thing. Glad to see you back around. :)

First set of 3D eyes i did, coated with hard as nails.... lots of them fell off. 2nd try i TRIPLE coated them with hard as nails... and a few of them still fell off after fishing them on several trips. I recently did some and this time i put a tiny drop of gel super glue in the socket before i placed the eyes then a quick coat of hard as nails just to make it look smooth. This is un-tested so far. Interested to hear if you find a winning formula for those big jigs, i fish alot of rocky areas.

BTW - That jig looks cool and should have some good swim/glide effect (jigged vert.) with the lead so far out in front of the hook eye.

I put a dab of glue on these two last night. When you seal them do you guys just go around the edges or cover the whole eye?I don't like the looks of going over the whole thing, lol. These two are 3/4 oz. Wedge Headfs for flounder.Supposed to look like a juvanile "Bunker".I'm in the process of moving back to Pa. for some saltwater all the time. Also smallmouth. My computer went down right before Christmas and I did'nt want to buy another one until I moved. That's why I have'nt been around.Got a good deal that I could'nt pass up,lol.Lots of big jigs tyed in my down time.

I make a lot of bass jigs with bigger eyes and if I want them to stay on I use D2T (Devcon 2 Ton). It is a clear epoxy and I cover the whole jig top to bottom. Never had an eye fall off, never ever. Jusy my 2 cents worth.

AZ,
Check out this link you can get it here. You can buy the 1 oz 2 part tubes. I buy it in 9 oz. as it is more economical. Shelf life about 5 years, it is a two part mix. I love this stuff. It dries hard and clear in 24 hours. It has a light golden glow to it over white paint, but that never seemed to bother the fish. In another words your brite white won't be as bright as it was. You can also just put it over the entire eye and just where the eye edge meets the body of the jig. Good Stuff. Make sure you get the 30 minute and not the 5 minute. Working time is about 15 minutes per the size half of a dime.
