I've only had a vague suspicion that GMO crops may be harmful, because apparently mainstream media suppresses any info and our watchdog Fed Gov actively supports GMO. Luckily, today on our local Craigslist someone posted this link.
http://www.naturalnews.com/037249_GMO_study_cancer_tumors_organ_damage.html

Here are some other tidbits you can ask Barney about.
1. Hungary burns GMO corn fields
2. China burns USA GMO corn shipments
3. The Monsanto 71 in the US senate
4. Countries requiring labeling of GMO content(64 and counting)
4. Countries banning GMO crops and products(27 and whoops, add Peru last month)
6. Effect of glyphosate(Monsanto Roundup) on soils
7. Origin of Agent Orange

Luckily, even before GMO crop products became mainstream my wife has insisted we purchase organic food as much as possible because of pesticide and herbicide spray issues.

GMO's are part of almost everything now. I don't remember the exact figures but since the GMO's have been added the rate of IBS and other bowel conditions have increased some 80%. The GMO's are modified with a special pesticide to make bugs die once they ingest the crop. Just imagine the long term effects on your stomach......

Ya think. Heirlooms the only way to go. Many small producers that can supply you with high quality food. What do you think about Smithfield Foods being purchased by the Red Chinese. A disaster waiting to happen. Have been on this for over two years. No one was that interested. Remember the old saying " you are what you eat".

I'm not a fan of anything being produced in China. A recent sample showed that the lead levels in rice grown in China was higher than claimed.

It's almost impossible to avoid GMO's. Everything that has corn syrup prob came from genetically modified corn. It's not just the veggies, have to look at all the ingredients and the orgin.

Wow, Barney sez Smithfield is the worlds biggest "other white meat" producer. But, China seems to be leery of GMO corn and they did EXECUTE execs in their melamine milk tainting scandal.

I mostly get local slop fed cuz it tastes better. Unfortunately, the restaurant leavings are now suspect.

Driving thru the endless corn fields in CO & NE the fields are usually signed with a Monsanto, Syngenta etc. variety # - I assume those are GMO?

In 2010 I got really sick with what my doctor diagnosed as IBS. Conventional med treatment might have eventually progressed it to fatal, had to research and implement alternative to get better. Not EZ when my guts were making me cry and hadn't eaten or pooped in over a week. MD doc refused to consider non-"medical" options. We try to eat fresh organic, but I had to give up Pepsi, popcorn, Niblets, corn tortillas, etc. Think I read that potatoes and sugar beets are also GMO now.

Yep Melimine they use to make plastic TV cases out of it back in the day. There is however very little difference between whipped spread and plastic only one molecule difference. We now eat and cook with Butter. Yes it is more expensive but at least it comes from a cow.

Most all the corn now days is GMO as is most other grains. They not only have corn that is resistant to bugs but they have varieties that are now grown for the corn sweetener and Ethanol. Here is a link to help you determin if what you are buying is GMO or not. http://www.centerforfoodsafety.org/fact-sheets/1974/true-food-shoppers-guide-to-avoiding-gmos Google center for food safety .org a good site for all that you eat.

Remember the Chinese are the people that ground Fox, Mink and Muskrat together and sold it to there people as Bacon. They have ruined there food supply chain and now are aiming for ours. I am upset about the whole thing. They talk about exporting pork to their country but it is really about introducing their food in to the U.S. under a well established meat processor. They could just send all the pork over to China and dry up our supply over here, think about it. Guess that I will have to learn how to hunt hogs.

As a response to the recent report of GMO contamination of OR wheat, in todays news:

Japan has just cancelled a large contract to purchase U.S. wheat. “We will refrain from buying western white and feed wheat effective today,” Toru Hisadome, a Japanese farm ministry official in charge of wheat trading, told Reuters.

Update: despite 360,000+ petitioners barking at the Senate, no make that senate, passed the agriculture bill including the anonymously authored Monsanto rider which exempts them from gov oversight. Altho Roy Blount from MO initially led the charge to slip it thru ultimately Harry Reid called for a vote on the full bill leaving the Monsanto Rider intact.

Gee, I wonder how many petitions in support of the Monsanto rider were received?

By the way, the cost to taxpayers for the "Farm" bill passed in the senate was $955 billion up from $650 billion in 2008. Even tobacco growers are covered.

Considering the still high unemployment and sluggish economy I can't understand why the bill includes a reduction of $4 billion for funding the food "stamp" program. Word is the house of reps want to increase that reduction amount to $20 billion. Reminder: a billion = 1,000 million.

The bill requiring GMO content labeling known as "Proposition 37" in CA was defeated by supposedly massive disinformation funding by the corporate food industry. Here's a partial list of only the largest donors over a million $s.
PepsiCo-2.5M, Kraft-2M, Safeway-2M, Coca Cola-1.7M, General Mills-1.2M, ConAgra1.2M on & on.

I don't know the details, but somehow voters were convinced to oppose their own freedom of choice as customers?

Anyone on here who has not watched Food.Inc. should do so ASAP. They cover Monsanto and many other aspects of our food industry. A couple years ago our local theatre had free shows every Tuesday for a month. The local farmers were not happy. Now why would a farmer/rancher who knows everyone in a small town, does business there, goes to church there, etc... get upset when the truth is revealed. Anything to make a buck I guess no matter who it hurts. Its going to come down to these people as well as consumers refusing to buy or grow their poison. Profit is the only thing these corporations care about. Doesn't matter who it hurts we are repopulating everyday. Amazing how Monsanto and others have a hold on farmers and run seed cleaners right out of business. Also, farmers themselves are farming road to road or road to creek/river these days. Anything for a few more bushels now and worry about the erosion and water quality later. It's time for all of us to open our eyes to the evil around us. I've said my piece.

Breaking news today Jan 14, 2014
"The U.S. Supreme Court today issued a decision in the landmark federal lawsuit, Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association (OSGATA) et al v. Monsanto. Farmers were denied the right to argue their case in court and gain protection from potential abuse by the agrochemical and genetic engineering giant, Monsanto."

Breaking local news re: GMO pesticide testing:
"KAUA`I — Yesterday, three of the world’s largest agrochemical companies filed a lawsuit against the County of Kauaʻi to block implementation of the recently passed Kauaʻi Ordinance 960 (formerly known as Bill 2491). Syngenta, DuPont Pioneer Hi-Bred, and a Dow Chemical subsidiary filed the lawsuit in federal district court on Oahu.

Ordinance 960 establishes buffer zones around sensitive areas such as schools and hospitals, mandates disclosure of pesticide use, and instructs Kauaʻi County to complete a health and environmental impact study. It is set to take effect in August 2014.

The chemical companies currently use pesticides that are banned in many other countries, in the open air, next to schools and homes. Documents revealed in another lawsuit show that these experimental operations spray restricted-use pesticides 250-300 days a year, 10-16 times per day.

In several incidents, students at Waimea Canyon Middle School fell sick after Syngenta pesticide spray drifted into the school yard. Director of the Hawaiʻi State Teachers Association Tom Perry recounted the incident in public testimony: “There were ambulances where students were getting sick in large numbers along with the teachers. They sent the kids to the hospital"

With an announcement today that the USDA is on track to rubber stamp approval of Dow's new 2,4-D resistant GMO corn & soy, I did some research.

2,4-D along with 2,4,5-T were the two ingredients of Agent Orange. Altho 2,4,5-T was banned by the EPA in 1985, 2,4-D use continues as the 3rd most widely used herbicide. Typically, agro chem mfg and industrial farms maintain it's safety, while those affected by unwanted wind drift contamination complain of damage to their crops and health issues. More importantly, deadly dioxin contamination is inherent in the 2,4-D mfg & distribution process and while independent tests have detected sometimes alarming levels of dioxin, government regulatory agency's testing is mostly non-existant. The two primary producers of Agent Orange were Monsanto and Dow, familiar as big guns in the GMO industry.

As I get more schooled on GMOs, the persitant patterns of lies, cover ups, failure of government regulation, denials of responsibility etc. get more n more disturbing. Lots of info available to any interested. At one time banned 2,4,5-T was promoted as being "safe enuf to drink".

OK, not enuf interest to continue, so let me conclude that you & I are being blindsided by the industrial food - GMO - agrichem partnership to eat what they decide maximizes their profit at any cost, irregardless of our health and the environment. Our watchdog regulators in the USDA, FDA, & EPA among others appear to be industry shills, and the culprit industries are gradually legislating themselves above the law apparently with the assistance of both parties.

What really hammered me about the industry is when one of our local county govs had to pass an ordinance to prevent school kids from getting sickened by GMO test pesticide spray drift, and the culprits sued in federal court to block this.

Hopeless? Yah, as long as we continue to be distracted by the Washington clown show. As I said, according to Scully and Muldur, "the truth is out there".
