Hi,

Andy Lane´s flesh fly variant reminded me of the craze we had over here a few years ago about a salmon-flesh-coloured spey shrimp fly. So I loooked up some advice on mixing salmon tones, and after a couple of tries(football heads) I came pretty close(SU heads). As far as I remmber, it was
1 par fluo pink
1,5 par pearl white
1 par yellow
1/4 par orange

The stand up spinner jigs are a harsh disappointment by the way. They do stand up allright but don´t spin because the material keeps getting in the way. Not cool.

A lot of folks just use stand up heads with plastics . You have to do some crazy looking ties to get out of the way of the blade or use willow blades for a smaller profile . That pink might just work well on perch . God knows I got plenty of those around here .

That's wild! Just yesterday I was thinking I needed some Salmon paint but the only recipe I found was 1 part Bright Green, 2 parts Hot Pink but that came out a bit too orange so I played with it. I added another 2 parts of Hot Pink and it was too pink so I added 1/2 part Yellow.

It's still too orange I think but more closely matches a Polar Shrimp chenille I have.

Any ideas on how to take this and "Salmon" it up better?

@Pepop:
a good deal of white and a little warm pale yellow should do the job.

@Toadfrog:
Thanks for that info, I was afraid so. Crazy looking ties? Hmmm... Now that flounder spin jigs are out of the question.... I was also thinking of a simple-tie-low-budget-high-risk- product line for zander anglers who loose 2-6 jigs in the boulders on every trip. Maybe an über-simple Zonker jig of just a thick rabbit strip and a Willow leaf underneath will do the trick. That would also spare me the trouble of finding a light wire saltwater hook which would fit into that stupid thing.
Zander jigs spend a lot of time resting on the bottom. While Pony/Horse-heads are already on the marked here, a stand-up spin jig version would look more snag resistant. :icon14:

looks good to me, while not the same - are you satisfied with it? you can always add more white and yellow.

Not sure if I remembered it right, then again there are different manufacturer´s colours involved. I used Rosey´s fluo pink, a toned down "pearl" white from a local supplier and rather dull no-name yellow and orange from another local shop.

The main idea in salmon as I understand it is to warm up the cold red/white=pink with some yellow and/or orange.

When I was Painting some jigs imitating rosey red minnows I used pink, orange and white. It didn't take much orange.

Like Bucho said, not exact but I can live with it. Besides, by the time salmon gets down to East Texas, it's kinda anemic lookin anyway. sickly.gif

The Erie jig was originally designed I believe for walleye fishing so the swivel added might have been for attaching a stinger treble which some wall wackers seem to find indispensable.

Wild Alaska kings are worth every penny - when they're on sale.
