I have a C. Palmer Hot Pot II. I accidentally left it out in the rain overnight a week ago. It developed rust on it when I brought it in the next day. How can I remove the rust from it without damaging it and without it corroding any further?

Use some steel wool on it. don't know if you have the pot with the heating coils in the cup or outside of it - but you can use the steel wool on the coils CAREFULLY!!!!!!! For heavy spots of rust or corrosion use some fine sand paper to get it off.

The biggest problem I see is if water damaged the coils or the cord. Do the above then plug it in and try it - if it doesn't melt as usual you have problems.

I have the new one. Used it today some and I used it a few time before that. It works. It is the one with the replaceable coil that is externally mounted.

I will use steel wool on it. I will never leave that thing outside again. Man if that was left outside for a month, it would look like it was 100 year old iron.

I inherited one that sat outside. It was rusted solid, but still headed.

Removed all the pouring hardware & use it to melt 'dirty' lead, flux & clean (scrape off crap that floats to the top) - then use the 'clean' lead in a newer Lee's pot.
