A NH customer Amy mentioned that she raises and supplies "rooster pelts". I've never needed to tie with fowl materials so know nothing about it but here's the link she provided if anyone is interested.

She states "I sell them for a lot cheaper than most commercial hackle pelts, just because they are not a breed that has been specially selected for super long hackle feathers"

Those do look like pretty good deals. There is a small farm not far from my place selling fresh eggs that I need to stop buy one of these days. I wonder if they'd be a little freaked out if I asked for some chicken pelts:D

Many salt water sea trout fly tyers here prefer those long, soft fibered second- to third grade pelts to anything else. Its only dry flies that ask for long feathers with short, dense stiff fibers.
Those are great feathers for wooly-bugger style jigs or small shrimp flies. I´d buy them at a stand if they were offered around here.
