Last year lost one of my favorite ultralights to a run away fish. This was my first loss of rod from boat in over 60 years of fishing.
After that swore that will not happen again. Well the fish done made a liar out of me again. Was using jig on one rod and live baiting with slip bobber on another. I almost always use a rod holder unless I am holding it. The key word there is " almost ".
Another 7 foot ultralight disappeared so fast out of the boat I seen it and could not believe it. Whatever took it the rod shot out of the boat like it had a rocket attached to it.:beat-up:
This was a 7 ' Pleuger razor tip that I absolutely loved. So some big Fish is wearing it for an ornament right now. If this keeps up I think I am going to invent some kind of emergency cord for rods going overboard. Reel that was mounted on it was a Pflueger President 6025. Of course I had just bought the reel a month ago.
Bad thing this was a night that the action was extremely slow and this happened right at daybreak. Was not my night at all.
