Wife was off today and as soon as she woke up this morning mentioned she had a headache and knowing how she can be I took it as a cue and made my exit. Armed with a couple gift cards I got for my birthday,a $25 BP and $50 Cabela's I headed out,Bass Pro was my first stop. In the Fly shop I was looking over their prices on items of interest and are they ever high on their prices, even compared to Cabela's which is 5 miles from them. I picked up three items that caught my eye and used up that card ,items in the first picture. Then I ran over to Cabela's. The second pic, minus a second big bag of mallard flank is what I got there, used the card and added $10. Lot's of items were half off. Nanofil in 1b and 3lb which retail for $19.99 were $9.99,and most of the other items were on sale as well. Even without the sale items Cabela's is cheaper on almost everything I looked at. If I would have bought the same items at BP I would have spent over $100. That's why the only way I'll go to BP is if I have a gift card. Should have stayed longer because when I got home she was even worse. View attachment 6View attachment 7

BP price utc thread $2.29 Cabelas $1.59 Mallard flank BP small bag $3.99 Cabelas large bag approximately 5x more for $5.99 Rootbeer krystal flash BP $4.99 Cabelas $1.99 with sale, normally $3.99. Didn't check Cabela's to see if they had the three items I got at BP or I might have been mad. The Mini Magnets I got at BP are interesting, baits are 1/2 inch long with 1/200 oz shad dart heads and a #14 jig hook. Something you don't see every day. Put the zonkers back once I saw that. Could be some killer ice fishing baits.

The stick on eyes are ok but someone here brought to my attention an ebay deal on 3d eyes, price was $5.99 for 1500. I got three sizes of those in gold and silver for a great price. 4500 3-d eyes for $20.97. Only downside is they are coming from China. Don't like buying outside the USA but was to good to pass up. The Nanofil is super soft and about as thin as a human hair.

Sounds like a fun shopping trip. Looks like you got some sculpin FishSkulls.... have been wanting to try those myself. Thinking you could make some awsome goby and sucker patterns with them. Also - do a net search to look up the articulated shank clips they make for them - interesting stuff!

It does amaze me the difference in price between BassPro and Cabelas or Netcrafters. Have all three right around Toledo, Ohio which is about an hour and half drive. I was in BassPro last weekend and got sticker shock on a lot of stuff..... picked things up and put them right back. Only walked out with a few things i had never seen in other places i go. Don't think i will be back any time soon. However, got some BLACK krystal flash that i think is going to look sweet on white or light color tails.

I have a Cabelas 20 minutes from my home and a Bass Pro Shops 45 minutes from me and a Gander Mountain about an hour away. I've been to them all and here is how I rank them. For selection of fishing items Bass pro then Cabelas and Gander Mountain is last. As far as pricing, well they are all close, it just depends on what you need, Cabelas has lower prices on somethings and Bass Pro others but both are a little ahead of Gander Mountain. When it comes to tying stuff, the Cabelas fly shop has a wider range of stuff and the prices are much better than the others. I like getting regular cut plain color zonkers from Cabelas as 4 dollars gets you 6 feet instead of the normal 3 bucks for 3 feet. I do like them all and for pouring supplies, my molds come from Zeiners Bass Shop in Kansas, and then I spread my other supplies around from Barlows Tackle to Janns Netcraft to Lure Parts Online and finally, the place with a real nice human being to talk to is Real Pro Sport Fishing out of Canada, really nice people and great prices.

Af, the sculpin skulls are cool and half price at Cabela's on certain sizes. They come 8 in a pack normally but of course I picked up the pack with only six in it,didn't notice it until I got home because without my glasses I couldn't see the quantity should have been 8. Guess someone tried a couple for free. Some people are crazy risking getting caught stealing over less than a couple bucks. Cabelas would prosecute them over that if they were caught. I tied a couple of those sculpins this morning and will post them shortly.

Nice buy. I would be broke all the time if I had one of the bigger stores near me. My closest BPS is 125 miles one way so I don't go to often.

Jim do you have a Cabelas close to you or did you drive to KC? I also like Cabelas for price but rarely buy much at either. We really like the return outlet at BPS in Springfield. Have found some really great deals on fishing items as well as clothes down there. Sometimes as much as 50% off.

I go to the Cabelas in Hazelwood,Mo. About a 50 mile round trip. BP is 5 miles further. I buy all my mallard flank and 70 ultra thread from Cabelas. Good price on thread and I can inspect the bags of feathers looking for bags with larger feathers. I need them to tie float-n flys, been hot lately.

Most of my mallard flank I've traded for on other boards. Hate buying what I can get from hunters who just want to toss it out. I get the catalouges from all the big names but when I see the prices it makes me cringe!!!!!!!! I'd like to know about how the eyes work out also, don't know what sizes you guys recommend.
