Some new bobbins recently......I like tension adjustment style. I am leaning toward the stonfo (red in pic) because of tension ability (my humble opinion), flat section for my fingers. Overall size is about the same. I like to stay close to the jig and with the crappie/gills I am tying the shorter the better.

Bobbins are like cars and all have there place! Thoughts?

I think it is mostly a matter of personal preference
I still use the two rail bobbin and bend the rails if I want more or less tension. Ceramics tips are nice but not absolutely necessary when using 210 denier threads. Smaller threads may benefit from the ceramics IMO. After I decided Iwanted 1 bobbin for each spool of thread, I found a deal at 1.50 each for 2 dozen. They had a ceramic tip but most have broken cracked or fallen off. I just polish the tubes and have not had an issue with any thread other than the nylon sewing thread. (fine as frogs hair and half as thick)

I have two griffins with ceramic inserts. Luv them except when I drop them on the concrete basement floor.

If I want to adjust the tension, I just wrap the thread around the arm.

I'm a Griffin bobbin user too. Managed to get some good deals through my local fly shop. Have tried others but just didn't like them.

Thought ceramic bobbins were created equal. Tried to load two eBay bargains yesterday and failed. Thread wouldn't suck thru & even a stiff mono threader got stuck on an internal ledge. Guess I'll have to get some long sewing needles.

The ceramic inserts are dull red.

I have 6 Griffin bobbins. I use my little finger to put tension on the spool as needed. I don't even think about it.......just do it naturally.
Works for me.

Hey dog, I don't suppose that deal would still be available would it? I have 6 now but have already had to JB Weld 2 of them. Guess I'm too rough on them! LOL!
