I've been reading, reading and reading some more on this topic for a while. Still contemplating the jump,
But while I was at scrap yard at work I inquired about their selling price of lead. 75 cents a pound sound about right?

Thx

Adam

Some of the softest lead I've used was roof flashing and vent pipes. The pieces with solder are the best because that creates a tin added alloy. Paint and tar will smoke badly in a melt.

Lost if you can get lead piping at .75 cents a lb. SNAP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wheel weights you'd have to sit there and sort them so you didn't get any Zinc. Roof flashing is also really good as Hawn said but if it has lot's of stuff on it you'd better make real sure you got a safe place to smelt it down the fumes are gonna be BAD!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I'd stick with the lead pipe!!!!!!!!! Course when I got it home I'd do my cleaning of it before it even went near a melting pot!!!!!!!!!!!.

Let us know how you make out!!!!!!!!!!

Most scrap yards sell their lead to parent companies for around 30 cents a lb. Atleast thats the way the ones ive dealt with do it. So there's some bargaining to be made anywhere over that price!

JSC - anytime I get old lead waterpipe I get it home and using a sinker on a string drop it thru and using some scrap shop rags tied to the cord pull it back into the pipe and swab out as much as I can then I let it dry and then you can take and set it on it's end and tap the top of it with a hammer and you'll get alot more stuff out. Then cut it into chunks and into the cast iron pot with a lid on it.

Better safe than sorry!!!!!!!
