Pup inspired yarn jig

Been wanting to try some jigs like Pup ties with the yard on crappie. Tied a few 1/32 jigs using- orange craft fur for the tail and yellow/gold yarn with yellow thread for the body on a 1/32 orange head sickle hook and tied a few using marabou in place of the craft fur.
These jigs takes some work. Gives me even more respect for the jigs Pup ties.

Hope to give them a try tomorrow.

That's an interesting color combination. I hope that you do very well with it on the crappie.

The lake I'm fishing is clear so I hope that color will work at first light? Orange was the only color craft fur I had. Started to put a dark color body and if these work I will tie some with the darker colors. It was fun trying to tie them as I had not tied anything like that before. Your jigs always look great with nice colors combos.

Nice looking jig. Kind of wonder what it would look like if you used velcro and brushed out the yarn strands??? (it's basically the hook part of the velcro - usually has a sticky back - and stuck on a popsical stick and used as a brushing tool)

I tried the velcro brush but it was turning the yarn into a fuzz ball. Used a brass brush but it was doing the same as the velcro. Did pick it out. Got to see if they work on the crappie and if so I'll get some different yarn.

Awsome! Got to love taking an idea and fresh jig right from the bench and getting success with it on the 1st outing. Makes you smile - even if not for the intended species. I'm pretty sure i have some of the same yarn you are using for the body and have never thought to use it that way.... got to try that. By the looks of that jig, i am positive i could catch some river creatures on one. Very cool! :jig:

Also have to say that bass on the bottom right is a beautiful fish!!! Striking color pattern. Both that one and the top left have similar patterns, are they a diferent species of largemouth? Only have standard LMB's (like the one on the bottom left) around here and one place that has some Kentucky Spotted that were stocked by the landowner, but they don't look quite like that.

They are spotted bass. They were not stocked in the lakes here but showed up a few years ago and about have taken over. They are very aggressive and put up a better fight than a large mouth. I caught one two years ago that was almost the state record at close to 7 pounds. Had a park ranger take pic and turned it loose to fight again.
This one was caught using a 1/16 oz jig with 6 lb line. Was a good fight!

The stripes behind the eyes make them look like bad a$$ critters! Reminds me of smallmouth bass and almost looks like they could be hybrids. The Spots in the little pond i fish have a different pattern - more speckled almost like a black crappie but in bass colors... wish i had some pics of them.
