It is a bit different now using Windows 8.1. To me, it's somewhat like... losing a good friend in XP and learning to walk again. ;)

Actually, it's not been too bad so far. Kinda fun to learn the newer ins and outs. Getting away from the 'Top Down' of XP and moving toward the object-oriented functionality of 8.1.

I'd imagine that most here left XP quite a while ago. However, just out of curiosity, is anyone else here bailing on XP by the end of April 8?

When my XP HDD crashed, I transitioned to a used WIN 7 machine off of CraigsList. Fortunate, because my wife's new WIN 8 laptop seems a bit tedious after the EZ progression from 95-98-XP-7.

I like WIN 7 and don't understand how 8 is an improvement? And I still prefer Office 2000 over 2010.

Been off of XP for over a year now. Had some hicupps at the beginning, but now it's all smooth.

I'm now using Google Chrome on most applicantions and loving it.

I'm still on xp at home and not changing yet

Be careful if you continue to browse the web. Uninstall the applications that are chronic entry points for malware, such as Java and Adobe Reader. You might download a paid-subscription firewall like AVG's if you don't want to spring for a new computer or operating system (if you have the hardware to support it).

Hate learning new computer stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUX

In my case, I dislike letting go of my favorite programs and utilities that have been dependable through the years. Some are no longer supported. Now, I have to download and install many programs in order to set up my computer's system the way I like it.

Wow. I thought Lotus Notes died in the late nineties.

I work with ....wait a sec, let me count..... 8 separate computers daily and a couple others on a semi weekly basis for people with questions. Everything from 1 with WinME up to Win8. Have 2 at work that are stuck with XP into the foreseeable future since they require a 32 bit OS to operate specific peripherals. One runs an engraver (directly with a serial cable) and the other a specific embroidery software. Both have (several) thousands of files that would be lost if we had to upgrade. :( I cut the internet connections on both of those XP computers a few years ago and DO NOT add anything un-needed to the systems. They work as is and just keep hoping the power supply does not crap out. I have 2 fall back XP based computers stashed away in the basement if (when) they fail. Make lots of back-ups.

Of all the different operating systems... Win8 would be my choice! After getting used to it, i prefer it by far. Front end, i can arrange my program tiles on the new "Start" screen with all my important programs but they can still stay hidden and show at touch of a button. Would sure think many of you "smart phone" users would like the App style layout. Under the hood, have hardly had ANY crash or freeze issues EVER with the newer programs made to run on Win8. Running 3 separate systems with Win8 and they all run a lot more smoothly than any of the others.

Consider myself fairly computer literate, but on the first system we upgraded to Win8....... i had to do an internet search just to learn HOW TO SHUT DOWN the machine! No joke! There is some learning to do, but change is good.

Windows 3.1? Can still remember playing the Mail Order Monster video game on my Commodore 64. :)

That's what appears, at least initially to me, to be a situation that I need to resolve. My wife and I want to connect our scanner and printer to our new computer. Have to do some web browsing in order to find a solution for these devices. Resolved one other device problem so far.

I like 8.1. The 'App' style is what I referred to as 'object-oriented functionality' earlier in this thread. So far, I find myself toggling between the 'Start' screen and what I would consider to be the 'Old School' or conventional Windows Background View just after startup.

Had a problem with 8.1's Autoplay grabbing disc media while attempting to execute another 'App' that I've downloaded. That situation froze my new computer. Had to turn off Autoplay. Initiated a Google search after forced shutdown and restart to quickly find a way to resolve it. ;)

I Have XP also and it works for me. I don't know what to put on my computer at this moment but I know I must do it and learn how to us it. IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT I agree with Hawnjigs. Anyway I have no choice so I am sure I will move to a new system like all of you and have to learn this stuff a new way. I will be following what you folks put up on here.
