Altho I truly respect law enforcement personnel doing a tuff job, the recent publicity on sketchy shootings is making me a bit paranoid. This incident in Paradise, CA was investigated and deemed accidental. Officer was responding to a speeding vehicle call which apparently hit a median and flipped during his approach. You can jump to the 50 second mark.

It is becoming crazy. I do not envy the choice to become a police officer what-so-ever. However, i do point out something that i see very important to my kids every time one of these stories makes the news. 99.9% of the time, the people RAN or RESISTED arrest when there was an 'accidental' shooting or when an officer used extreme force. If you watch it from the beginning, i am guessing the officer saw him blow through that intersection, possibly even ran the red light. Once the officer turned on to the other road and began pursuit, the 'victim' HAD to see those flashing lights. From that point he had over 20 seconds to decide if he was going to stop or keep going. Not making light of it, but at what point do we stop calling them a victim and say it was their choice to have their fate decided for them?

I've told my kids over and over again, if you run from law enforcement all bets are off and you leave it up to what the officer involved believes at the time needs to be done. Dump adrenaline on that officers brain from a high speed chase or fight and their outlook on their environment becomes distorted very quickly. I'm usually a fairly paranoid person and seeing these things happen does not make me any more so. I have no reason to run. ;)

I'm beginning to think that the cops are getting fed up with catching the bad guys and then the lawyers and judges just turning them loose to do the same thing over again. On the other hand this guy looked like he was a little quick on the trigger. A police friend of mine once told me that if you run when told to stop that makes you a felon, and they can shoot felons. There's a really fine line with what's going on now days. It all boils down to a total lack of respect for anybody and the "I deserve everything" attitude.

Where does the "I deserve everything" attitude come from?
 POOR PARENTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it is more "I deserve everything AND refuse to contribute anything"
It is amazing how many people with kids think(I should say act like) that good behavior, manners, respect, and morals just show up like teeth, and hair! Or they think it is the job of the schools and daycares to teach our kids! :@

Son's interviewing now for law enforcement

But he's not taking any traffic cop jobs. He's going for a forensic criminal investigator job.

I'm w/ ya Duff - no respect anymore. I taught my son that & we're kinda proud of him that he turned out the way he did.

Family, some church, and a good kick in the a$$ every now and then works.

I have 2 kids that are cops. Daughter will retire next year after 20 years. Son is on strike force and has 8 years in. In 1998 daughter was named cop of the year after taking out a cop killer. She was second car in, first one died. She had over 50 bullet holes in her car. Went to Washington and received a comindation from Clinton.

hunter7711 - I have all the respect in the world for them and very thankful for what they do. I pray they are safe for their careers.

Have to agree with duffy, the consequences don't appear all that bad when they hear on the media about people getting off on technicalities and other crap...........

"Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see"
