Playing with different profiles tonight out of necessity. Out of my good long fiber black craft fur and wanted to make some walleye jigs to try out tomorrow (actually tonight, Thursday night) night. Watched a guy with some youtube videos talk about liking to use bright head colors with dark plastic baits. Wanted to replicate that with hair. But my only black hair was on the short side. Ended up using chenille instead of thread necks on the dark tails so I could end up with a longer overall bait. Tied a couple of my basic doll fly styles (in bright colors that I have longer fiber hair) in just to compare. Not really sure if I like the chenille bodies on these bigger jigs.

I don't remember any color(s) heads, ties, or Gulp! working better than another for my wally jigging. Tied jigs of others I've observed here are single color white, chartreuse, or black basic ball head doll flies. Let us know what worked best for you.

Off topic but WTF noteworthy - chatted yesterday with wally tournament angler Marty who mentioned harvesting snagged broken off lures in drowned trees during low water on Lake Mac - including 200 of his favorite Salmo cranks.

You could tie in your shorter craft fur in the place of your chenille wrap.  Can make for a bulkier tie in hand, however it doesn't appear bulky once the jig is wet.

I've done this type of 'two-stage' fur tying on a number of my jigs.

Your jigs look really nice btw.

Nice craft fur ties. I got addicted to it this last year or so and it's been responsible for almost all my big fish, including my PB largemouth that was almost 10 lbs. Black with a couple strands of Krinkle Mirror Flash has been the most productive, even catching hybrid stripers with them now. Check out a product called Polar Fibre. It's long and shinier than regular craft hair and I've been getting it at Feathercraft for $2.99. Really nice product!!

I threw the hair jigs for a while last night and never got a bump on them.  Started cycling through other baits and finally started getting some bites on a simple twister grub.... but they were just grabbing the tails and pulling.  Took a long time and lots of casts, but finally did catch a nice fat 23" walleye that had been gorging on bluegill and perch.

No eggs this time, think she was spawned out and decided it was dinner time. Not sure about twister color making a difference, caught this one a black Kalins lunker grub. Wind was up when i first got there and tried stickbaits off the bat.... no hits, no followers. Tried both bright and dark colored hair jigs, nothing. Even changed sizes of them twice. Switched to a big 5" Kietech swimbait and still no bites even though i was seeing some big fish in the rocks. When i switched to the twister grub i at least started getting pull backs and did have another big one hooked up briefly. I just kept throwing the same bait after that. They seemed to be just pulling at the tail though. This fish, on the other hand, was in full on hungry hippo mode and really gave me a solid thump. Hook was right in the top of the mouth.
