Fatman painted some jigheads with new penny and orange glitter and I really liked how it turned out and it got me thinking. I took metallic copper and added gold hologram glitter and I did one with metallic gold using the same gold hologram and I liked how it turned out. The pics are lousy but my camera is old but anyway, what the gold hologram glitter does is it reflects the color that it is on so it has a glowing effect which is why I used it on the gold. When you look at the pic it looks as if the lead on the jighead is wrinkled but it isn't, that is just how much light reflects off the hologram glitter.

Did you mix your glitter in with the powder color or mix it in a clear then re-dip??? I tried the glitter in the color and have been sadly disappointed. Been doing way better with the second clear coat dip.

Fatman, I heat the head just a little more than usual and then dip in paint and take out and then dip in glitter. I remember trying to use a fluidbed with the clear with glitter, that was a big mistake! Glitter colors like watermelon red flake or copperhead gave me fits at first but I found that if you fluff after every 2 or 3 jigs, depending on the size, that you can get pretty consistent but it is time consuming which is why I only do those colors in small batches. I will tell you that you should try the gold hologram, I have just about every color, even firecracker glitter but I don't have orange but I'm getting it after seeing your heads. The gold hologram seems to use finer glitter, the same for the silver hologram, when you use it with the candy or metallic colors you don't really see the flake, instead you see reflected light, it looks good in clear water but this was the first time I actually used it with the copper and gold, I normally use it over the shiny lead, metallic green and black.

Getting real used to mixing the glitter in with clear powder as it gives the jig a really nice shine after it's cured.

I get the glitter premixed in clear, they are all protec and while it is more expensive I know how the stuff works and it last a long time but I never thought of mixing plain glitter with clear powder, I may have to try that.

I thought about the Protec stuff but I've read alot of threads over at Tackle Underground that some of the guys don't like it as it really doesn't look good.

I know clear and glitter doesn't work well at all in the fluid bed so I just dip them or brush tap them. For the cost of clear and how many different colors of glitter you can buy and mix I'd rather make it up myself. If you read back through some of the threads here you'll see where some of the paint jobs have 3-4 colors of glitter in them and with Protec you cant get that.

I wil be the first to admit that some glitter coats dont' show up at all on certain color's. I mixed up a clear coat with purple and green (darker green) and on a chartreuse head even after curing it hardly showed but on a black base coat it popped!!! so like I said there is a learning curve to making up your own, and yeah I'm still learning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
