I agree! Major pain!! I started using heat shrink tubing and I won't fool with foil again. I commend the foil users but I'll stick with the heat shrink, it's much easier and a lot faster for me.

brush/ tap is easy

This has been my best luck.

But I'm a dipper and sling very few. Of course I watched n leaned from some of the best here… I'm just a slow learner.
I use heat shrink quite often at work, how r yall'll using it?
Remember Scott V having good success with cooling the swivel area with water b/f hand.

Slow n steady sounds like gold in the long run.

More details Sonny?
Where ya at Mr G and Scott?
JJ1, with your belly and tail spins?

On single colors i hold the jig by the swivel and dip keeping the swivel clean. Easy once you've done a bunch. I also hang them by the swivel while curing... Gauranteed ready to go when pulled out of the oven! Foil is for the birds!!! The right heat shrink is much easier.

I use the cheap heat shrink from harbor freight. I cut just a bit longer than the swivel, slide it over and shrink it. Heat the head, dip it in fluid bed, clean the eye and pull the heat shrink slowly and it usually stretches but slides off, as long as it ain't to warm.

I can't remember the exact size but it is one of the smaller ones from this kit. I think it's the 3/32" .

One thing I picked up earlier this year was to dip the swivel in water immediately after heating and before dipping.
I heat the finger held jig over heat gun.
I grab hook eye with forceps or needle nose pliers
I dip the swivel in water
Dunk jig head in Fluidized powder coat.
Knock off excess and onto curing rack.

I was using silicone tubing but too time consuming. The water dip really speeds the process and thus far, no clogged eyes (Actually 3 out of 1500).

I just did some swivel chubs with small heatshrink (about 1/8 in length) and it worked out great. Not sure about curing with them on though. I would recomond pre cutting a pile of them so you don't have to stop and go. Just slip them on and let it shrink while your heating up the jig for powder.

The dipping of the swivel in water works great for me. I hold the jig by the hook with a pair of forceps. I heat the pony head in the flame of an alcohol burner. I dip the swivel in cool water. I grab the eye of the hook with a smaller pair of forceps, releasing the first pair. I then dip in the powder paint. Holding the jig by the hook eye keeps paint out of the eye.

Tried doing the water trick and for ME didn't like it. All my unpainted pony's and horseheads have foil on them ready to go when I want to paint some. Some nights I don't feel like tying or painting so I sit and cover the swivels.

You guys that are dipping in water after you heat. Aren't you guys getting water droplets in the powder paint? If so doesn't that screw up your powder paint. I'm just curious on this, as I've always used foil.

Excess water does not seem to be an issue for me. I do not soak them in water just a quick drip and there does not seem to be any excess. Originally, I used an ice cube instead of water it worked but was not very consistant thus hard to maintain a rythym.
