These are a couple I did in the same type pattern as the rootbeer jigs only I used a smaller head and different materials. The top jig is a 1/16oz weedless round head painted black , it has a body of gray bucktail on the back and a little black bucktail on the front and I blended both on the sides of the jig. Over top of the black and gray bucktail is short brown bucktail and then it is finished off with a pheasant feather tied in as a collar. The bottom jig is another 1/16oz weedless round head painted watermelon, the body is olive bucktail and a little bit of brown bucktail tied over top to make a watermelon type color. After the brown bucktail was tied in with the olive I tied in silver flash and then some short pieces of brown bucktail were tied over top of the main body and it was finished off with a brown pheasant feather as the collar.

Thanks guys, StumpHunter, you're not the only one that liked that color my buddy saw it and I tied up 4 just like it and they are heading to the river next Mondy or Tuesday. It is still too cold for me, I need at least 40-42 degree air temps or my bones can't take it but it will only be another 2 weeks!!! BTW I have a bunch of heads poured and I'll paint another half dozen that color form myself.

SJ - with the feather overwrap on the bottom one if you want it to look really leggy I have a little tool I made with popsicle sticks and tongue depressors. Take the hook part of the velcro and stick it to the stick/depressor and gently brush the barbules of the feather apart.

You can also use this tool on dubbing and it really helps with brushing zonker strips after they're tied in. VERY VERY gently you can also fluff up cactus chenille.

smalljaw, how soft are those fibers that are used to make the weedless. I have never used any and am wondering if they interfere in hook sets. May try some or order some just to be able to hold them in my hands so I can see for myself.

Thanks guys, StumpHunter, these aren't stiff at all but you need to get the medium and the clear ones are about the same as the black but they are shorter. You can the heavy which has 7 strands but they are real stiff or the medium like I use and they have 12 strands but are pretty soft, the clear ones have 8 strands and it only comes in a medium as they are meant for smaller jigs. The clear one is an FG9 which is 1/16" diameter and 7/8" long, and the black is an FG12 and is 5/64" in diameter and 1 1/4" long. I make some weedless one for my buddy to use for crappie with a little singer shad soft plastic and he just cuts 3 or 4 strands off of them and he says they have been working great, and for myself, well this is a new mold that I didn't get to use the heads myself but I do use the FG12 weedguard on my other jig heads and they don't interfere at all, I'm amazed they help keep snags off but they do, in fact I found these are better than wire so I now use all fiber weedguards in my weedless heads.
