This jig shows a pair of claws styled similarly to those of a popular plastic craw. Combined with craft fur, I hope that it will entice finicky cold water bass.

The jig is a 1/8-ounce ball head (no collar) with a #2 black nickel sickle hook sold by Grandpa Bob's. Its head has a plum brown color formed by a 1:1 mixture of red to matte black Harbor Freight Powder Paint. The craft fur is orange and brown long pile by Darice. Claws are cut from brown-colored Tandy Premium Leather. Everything is held in place by UTC Ultra Thread (140 denier) in rusty brown color.

As always good work . How is the leather holding up after it has been wet and dried a couple times .

That is just incredible, the colors are perfect and the leather craw chunk is fantastic to the point that you could sell them. The leather color si perfect, it will take scent really well, won't tear up from fish and won't get nasty like pork does, a true winner!!! Really well done!!

Pup - nice tie buddy!!!!!! That has eat me all over it!!! I do gotta 2nd Toads question on how the leather holds up???

Guys,

The brown and black/dark-colored leathers I have are durable and have great action when used as curly tails. My white/off-white leather is thicker and better suited for elongated trailers with spikes or fluted tails. I've been fishing them for about 4 or 5 trips and have caught nothing but small largemouth bass. That's a function of jig size/length and fishing location, I think.

One interesting thing I've noticed is that the leather has better action as it absorbs more water. Therefore, you'll get your best tail action on about the third or fourth cast. Also, forget about treating the leather with any glove oil or other conditioner. Treatment will likely lessen the leather's absorbency, thereby impeding movement.

Pup - thanks for the info on the leather. Are you cutting the shapes from templates you've made???

FM,

Yes, from templates I've created from actual baits or photos.
