As most of you know I've been a city dweller the last twenty years and finally got mrs rad to make the move out in the country. Mowed the 2 acres by hand the first two times and finally bit the bullet last week. ypunuta6.jpg

And you might notice it is green. We've had more rain in the last 5 weeks than we've had in close to two years !!! Not enough to make much difference in the lakes but it's sure kept me busy on the yard. Thank ya Lord

Got to love country life! When we first moved in, wife claimed she wanted to push mow our 1 acre lot to keep her in shape. I'd guess she did it maybe 6 times before we got a rider, and it was a powered walk behind mower. :P Now we have 3 acres total and she mows on the rider.... and i am still stuck dragging around the string trimmer.

Love to see your country side and been waiting for the pics off the back porch............. but it looks dang near like it could be 2 miles down the road from me. Can't tell you how many years this poor ignorant yankee assumed that ALL of Texas was dust, canyons, cactus and tumble weed.

Where does your water supply for the house come from....... you have a well, cistern or piped in?

You have room to grow plenty of tomato plants this year!

You may be at a disadvantage to start since i have worked at this for many years now. ;) I would prefer the front yard (side and back yard for that matter) to look like a nature preserve rather than a ball field. My better half wants to prance across lush greens in bare feet. Here is the proverbial straw that brings the camel down............. when i do mow on the rider, i put it in the highest gear and don't worry much about missing slivers on the corners here and there. For the next month, i am 'not allowed' to mow. :D :icon14: Problem solved, but still have to get out the back breaking weed eater every once in a while.

You will be old hat at the well stuff in no time as long as you know how to use a pipe wrench. I haul my own cistern water (running a shallow well pump from the cistern to the house) and have replaced the pressure tank and pump both. FYI - The tiniest leaks between the water and the pressure tank will screw you. Trust me! ;) All simple stuff once you do it once.

As for the septic system...... i call a professional and gladly shell out the $$. Actually, more like $$$. I will let them deal with my :bigfish: that come out the other side.

Green Acres is the place for me, country living will set you free. Yes Rodger now you got to get you a tiller for a big garden so you won't have to mow so much and have green fresh veggies. Now about the septic system one word Ridex. Use it monthly and you should have no problems. A big dog and .410 shotgun for nasty critters and you are set. Oh and don't forget the big container of fire ant killer. Enjoy, happy for you that you got out of the sub division.
