This is my Grandson Brandon (1 of 6) and he just turned 11 so I bought him a small starter kit to see if and how he would like tying. We spent a couple of hours yesterday introducing him to all the tools in his kit (traded a few tools out)
and started him tying his first jig using hackle. I think he enjoyed it and he went home with a box full of materials to last him awhile.
A shot of him learning the art of tying and a pic of him with his first jig.
Got to love seeing the next generation learning the art of tying :icon14:

Looks like he may be a natural and have a good teacher. Win Win! Way to go Brandon! Thats a good looking jig. Way better than the first 20 I ever tied put together. :) Whats funny is that i was going to make a post today about my son....Looks like I am might have a new jig tier in my family now too. My oldest son is twelve and hasn't shown much interest in tying jigs until yesterday evening. We went fishing after dinner and out of the blue he tells me that he thinks I need to get a new Vise. I asked him why and he said So I can have your old one and you can teach me to tie. I smiled real big and told him it makes me happy to hear that, almost as happy as when he asked me for a deer rifle and a bow. :D

Awesome job StumpHunter!!!!!! I've been teaching my grandson everytime he stops in, we used to tie just about everyday but they moved so he only gets to come obout twice a month but we still keep at it, he loves it and your grandson looks to be getting the bug too!!! I'd say he is a very lucky young man to have such a teacher, keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, if you really want him hooked, take him out and have him catch a fish on the jig he made, that will get him hooked so bad you'll have to hide the college fund...LOL!!!!

Hows about:
Teach a kid to fish and he won't have to buy any.
Teach a kid to tie and he'll spend more than the fish are worth.

Great thing when one of the younguns starts to get infatuated with your own hobbies.

But I tie and fish and at 65 years of age I still think about the " other things "

:P:P:P:P:P
