I will be getting off this old ship in about 2.5 weeks, and will be heading to the big Apple for vacation with the family...... My wife wants to visit some craft store there, which is supposed to have a lot of vintage fly-tying thread. There was a picture of a bunch of old geezers crawling around on their hands and knees looking for thread. I guess I need to get ready to fight off a bunch of old guys to get my stash!!
Hopefully this coona$$ won't be too overwhelmed by the big city!! Top thing on my to do list is to go pay my respects at the 911 memorial site. I remember that September day, and how it made me feel. God bless America and all she stands for.
My kids have never been on a plane... So ought to be an interesting trip!! Lol

P.S. I had to leave all my tying gear at home.... And I am having withdrawals!!!

I have always wanted to head to the big apple, but i have not been yet. My wife has been twice on business, but i was not able to take off work both times

uhuhuhhhhh........ no thanks on the big cities. Grew up in the burbs of a moderately sized city (Akron, OH) and live in the sticks now - honestly HATE getting around all the traffic (and people) in any city let alone one of that size, getting the shakes just thinking of it. Don't even enjoy going to places like Cabelas or BPS, way toooooo many people for me.

Hope you can make it through your 2 weeks without your tying gear. We will all do our best to post lots of cool stuf to make ya jealous.

Have fun on your trip. Think i have heard that there are some fishing groups that do fish Central Park...... thinking it is a crap club or something.

I spent a week in Phily,at a convention a few years ago,and had a day off before we were able to get back home...Rented a car for the day to head to NYC.We got to a fork in the road with a sign that said NYC 45 miles,Atlantic City 45 miles,,,I knew what I wanted to do,but the friend I was with had never even been to a Casino.Got to see the Boardwalk,and a few other sites,but sure wish we had gone the other way..........

Just re-read my own response and had to laugh. Think that was a Freudian Slip that snuck in there by my dis-like for big city atmosphere. I truly meant to say cARp club, not crap club! :bigfish:

I use to fly there for work. Not a big city guy, but if you can find the right places, you'll find ethnic food in local diners & dives that's phenominal. Bring your anti-acid pills.

If you got the cash, take the family on a Hudson river dinner cruise around the statue of liberty. Impessive.

Also visit the 9/11 memorial - it'll make you misty.

I'm not a Big city fan myself... But I do like to eat... Especially after I quit smoking... There are some great places to eat.. And I want my kids to appreciate where we live ( in the sticks ) after they see what a real city is like.
This trip is gonna set me back a few months on getting my new boat... But they are all excited.. So it's worth it.
This country boy is gonna be some kind of lost in that town!! That I can promise you!! Lol
