Interesting! It looks sorta transparent? If so I will say that it will have the least heat tolerance! I have several glitters for plastics that are semi transparent. It looks awesome in the jar but when it hits anything over 300 degrees it loses it's shine! Was a bummer since it looked so promising!

So would you cure 290 for 35 mins??? or any other ideas. I cure all my glitter coats at 325 for 25 minutes. If this is the same as the stuff you're talking about I'd have to lower my heat to 290 for 35 mins??? maybe!!

Yep, go at normal cure and see how it comes out. I found the "Artminds" brand and I mix colors using it because it is the first fine glitter I found that holds up to the heat.

Painting will start this weekend, the wife is out all day starting a Lifeguard class so I'm home alone!!! Want to try and pour some lead too but don't know if the back and kidney pain will let me. Really want to use some of the new black sickle hooks.

SJ - this is the first tube of this brand I bought so we'll see what happens.

I have never used glitter. From what I am reading, after you heat and dip in the color, you quickly dip again in clear powder mixed with the glitter. That was more a question than a statement. If you are using various colors of glitter, does that mean you need numerous bottles of the clear mixed with different colors? If that is the way to put glitter on the jigs I would think buying the clear glitter by the lb. is the way to go and split it up into different containers. Could use some advice. Thanks, Pop

Example....heat gun a few seconds and dip into fluid bed (red paint). Have 2nd fluid bed with clear/glitter. I measure by teaspoon until I get the right mixture. Still learning....almost 2/3 powder and a strong 1/3 glitter I pour back out my mix into ziplock bags and then wipe out fluid beds with papertowels. Currently looking into ultra fine glitter. I am following FM's advise. I think the ultrafine will look better. cooking in oven at 375 for 15 to 20 mins with no issues on melting JoAnn fabric glitter. Write down once you have the mix. I tic mark a sheet of paper on glitter until I get the mix right!

Pop you got it!!! Yes you will need jars - I get mine from Uline in the 3oz. clear - but I know a bunch of guys who get the jars for urine tests and use those. My brother in law brings me a bunch every now and then and I also order them from Uline. Yes buy clear by the pound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A bunch of us just did a group buy and I got 2lbs. but Rosy's powder coating is having a sale until the end of the month 50% off!!!

Glitter from the craft stores works fine, I get mine from JoAnne's, Michaels, ACMoore and I'd probably use Hobby Lobby too but their isn't one here. Fine or Ultra fine for small jigs and if you're tying bigger jigs you could use the medium.

If you have any more ???'s just ask and you'll get all the help you need!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ultra fine glitter will NOT work in a fluid bed, you need to mix with clear and use a jar or a shallow bowl. The reason it doesn't is the way it suspends, it will only float in a few areas so what you get is either all clear or all glitter nothing else. The same thing with the colors with glitter in them like junebug, copperhead, and watermelon red flake, use them is a fluid bed and you get color n one side of the head and a big glitter patch on the other side or all color or all glitter, I worked on it for years but gave up as there isn't a way to have the glitter suspend the way the powder does.

Fatman, do you have a source for extra fine black glitter? If so have you used it and does it hold up to the heat from the curing cycle? I appreciate if you can give me some info as the closest thing I can find is onyx and that is too shiny for what I want, thanks.

I've been getting alot of my glitter at AC Moore (another arts and crafts store) Here's some of the Ultra Fine glitter - I'll have to wait until I get home to get you a brand name.

This was a jig I posted the other night - you may not believe it but it is ultra-fine chenille, I just have way too much of it and not enough clear. I know I got this one at Michaels - I'll get you a name when I get home.

JoAnne's Fabrics has changed to a new brand of glitter most of the glitter they used to carry went on sale really cheap.

Thanks for the replies. I usually purchase the 2oz bottles of powder paint and have purchased small fluid beds from TJ's Tackle keeping the colors in the small fluid beds so I have the small Powder paint jars which I saved. I will be able to use these jars for the clear with glitter. Was in Hobby Lobby this week but didn't know if the glitter would hold up to the heat, but; from what everyone is saying, the glitter should work. What I liked is they also had small variety packs.
Thanks again for all the help. Pop

I took the Black Ultra Fine I bought in a Metallic variety pack from Hobby Lobby and it was real "sparkly" in the jar but I mixed a fairly large amount with some Metallic Gold and after curing it looks almost like Gold Vein, kinda dull. I'll try shorter/cooler cure next time. Any tips?

AND, took the photo outside in the full sun on my boat hull. The Black/Multi Sparkle looks great, the "Black Gold" (Metallic Gold with Metallic Black Glitter) looks better, at least you can see black specks instead of blotches. The other's are an attempt at Aqua but I got it too green.
