I have just begun to expand my fishing addiction into designing my own lures. I have started with in-line spinners and will branch out from there.
I fish mainly rivers and creeks in South West Ohio for smallmouth. Any advice on tools and tricks to making my own tackle would be much appreciated

Welcome aboard! I live back in missouri now but I lived in Cincinnati for a year or so. I lived cross the river in Florence and a few other little towns in KY for a while as well. My home is here but I sure miss it out there. I look forward to seeing some of your spinner creations.

Welcome from NW Ohio.

River smallmouth - keep your lures ugly, fat and dumb - you will catch fish. ;)

Welcome aboard from Vermont!! Making my own spinners now since 1984.

Make sure you have really good needle nose and round nose pliers. You don't say what you have for a wire former?? I use an old Netcraft wire forming tool and it's turned out Lots of spinners. Post some of yours up. If you look in the wire bending section you'll see a bunch that I've made.

Can't beat this site for advice. You should try your hand at some tying whether it be jigs or flies. Lotta great smallmouth jig patterns on here. If you've never fly fished for smallies you should give it a whirl. Muddler minnows and sculpin patterns are great as well as many other streamers. Fighting smallies on a fly rod is a blast you have to experience.
