Wife made me go shopping this afternoon and we stopped at a recently opened Field and Stream store just south of dayton ohio.

Pre Christmas prices are a bit shocking. However, I was impressed with their stock of tying materials and tools. Not too hatefully priced either. They had 4 aisles to neatly arranged and well organized materials. May be worth a drop in if you pass one.

I do not know, after your post, did some research and found out they are the same company. Stores are a bit different though. the Field and Stream stores have less clothing and more hunting and fishing hardware.

That would explain why I've seen Field and Stream-branded merchandise in the Dick's Sporting Goods near my job.

We have three Dick's in the Tulsa area. I highly doubt they're going to open a Field and Stream store, although a different option for tying goodies besides making the trek over to BPS would be nice. We're getting a Gander Mt., though. I've heard they carry tying supplies, but not a bunch.

Looked at the Rochester NY store and theirs a Dicks Store right across the road!!LOL Rochester is on the way back home. We have a Dicks 1/2 hr. from here and unless it's a really big sale and less than others I don't even go in.

The FS store is surrounded by Dicks Stores. There are two within 60 miles and I am almost dead center between them Their are 8 Dicks Sporting goods stores that I know of and probably a few I do not.

Our local BPS has a maybe 12' wall of tying materials and the FS store has 5 32' rows of materials. Our BPS store is getting ready to move and probably gonna raise prices as well.

My buddy was on the team that set up the F&S stores. He started at a Dicks & moved up.

I see Dicks popping up all over the place, but in comparison, their inventory's weak for the outdoorsman.

F&S is a great concept for Dicks. We need something where I'm at in NoVA. BPS is either 70 miles north or 100 miles south. Cabealas is about 100 miles.

I'm a die in the wool Cabelas guy, but mostly internet. Would buy F&S if they were local and had what I need.

Interested to see how they'll play in the marketplace.

WOW, I'm wondering with all the stores that carry fly tying supplies; how many of us are out here tying? I know the mark up on feathers and fur is out of sight; but don't see how they can compete with the internet.
