Ok fellas . I need some input on electrical heat . I've heated totally with wood all my life . Due to the new edition to our group of grand kids I will not be able to use wood to heat some of the time . So has any body got any experience with heaters like the Eden Pure advertised on t.v. . I would only need to heat 1100 sq feet the rest won't be necessary all the time . You guy that deal with cold weather all the time surely have this covered .

Eden pure the first few years were hit or miss. I have one, and it lasted 2 seasons, went through $75 to replace lights, now some sensor is bad and it keeps shutting off after 10 minutes of running. I may order one of the 2 sensors on it with hopes of getting the right one. When it worked, we loved it.
I also have about a 3 foot high, 20" wide ceramic heater I got off amazon.com for around $70 we like also. I'm at work, so I don't know the name, but it works well also. Those little gell filled radiators work good also, but you would nees more than 1 for that big area.

Toadfrog I talked to my son about his very thing to heat the shop as I didn't want to heat with wood there do to the many dangers and chemicals that I use there. He is using the oil filled radiator electric heaters to heat the bays in his bus barns. Told me to buy a small one for my shop area 360 Sq ft. Said his big radiators will heat a whole bay to 80 degrees in less that a hour in 20 degree weather and the mechanics have to turn them down and the will make it comfortable to work in all day. He said he got his in Wally world at about 100 buck each.

I don't know what the sq ft to a bay is but thinking that it is around 1200 by guestimation. Go look at them in store or on line. Haven't been able to get to W/W to check them out hopefully I will get there this week end to see and can give you more info then. Here is a link for you to look at believe this is the one I will get. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Delonghi-Safe-Heat-Oil-Filled-Radiator/12534594?findingMethod=rr Good Luck

After getting home and looking, my ceramic heater is a Lasko heater.

Those gel/oil filled radiators that I mentioned in the other post I have, put a small fan behind them and let the air blow through it and they work even better.

I am full of these electric heaters lol, I even forgot about the Sat. dish looking this we got from Costcos. Parabolic heat I think it is called. More of a directional type of heat, but if your in that direction, you will be HOT lol. Works great.

My new one is a DuraFlame - looks like a little fire place. Heats well but doesn't have a blower like my old one. The blower helps push the heat out further in the room.

Up Date :::: Toad Frog went to W/W and bought one of the Radiator oil Heaters. Plugged it in and it had a funny smell to it for the first three hours. I put it in our bedroom which is a room that is 16'x20' or 320 Sq ft. It took about 2 hours to heat up the room to the place to were it was very warm. Shut it down and it took some time before it kicked back on to warm up the room again. Will have to play with it to get it regulated right but at this point am pleased with it. Cost was $72 with tax it draws 12.5 amps so don't think that it is that bad on the electricity bill.

It will be 20 degrees here tonight and will use it as supplemental heat for the bed room. Other wise will take it out and use it in the shop. It will be a added plus to the shop and is lite enough that I can bring in the house on the cold nights to help out in our bed room. Hope that this help you in your decision.

I got one of the oil heaters . It will work for a bedroom . Talked to a guy buying one he said his other one was 5 yrs old and has been trouble free . Think I will try to find a large one say 3' by 2 ' . blt set me wise to the Eden Pure did some checking . Seems the problems with them is common . It's going to be 8 degrees tonight with wind . That is going to suck . My house was made in the 30's or 40's with not to many improvements . If you walk across the hard wood floors to go pee in the cold of the night it's liable to come out in cubes.

PLEEEASE keep that stuff at your house. I can't afford 9 more rick of wood . I'll freeze solid . Then you can just stand me in the front yard for a bird roost.
