Got a nice tree rat and have the tail in salt. Wondering if anyone uses the natural color or only dyed tails?

Boys love them some fried squirrel!

Squirrel tail is great stuff to use and you will get a couple decent colors out of that fox squirrel. It can be a little tricky to work with because it is slippery and will spin around the shank easily if you are not careful. You will want to lay down a TIGHT thread wrap base on the shank before you add the fur and then get it as tight as you can after you lay the fur in. I add nail polish on top to make sure it holds. The natural colors make great bluegill jigs.

Couldn't of been a prouder dad! Kids gotta drive to thrive in the outdoors. Spent 2 hours in a field blind after that, but the geese didn't corporate.

I cut tails and just put in freezer......pull out and use after 24hrs to kill any bugs. When done back in freezer.....love tree rats especially the reds those grays are fast and do not have the same hind quarters!!!

Nice pic!
