There was a big response to my nail polish thread in the materials section. Nail polish has some challenges compared to vinyl and powder paints. Mainly there's a zillion different shades and companies tend to name their products names that don't indicate the color. Let's face it, when a company sells 30 different shades of pink, they have to get imaginative. I saw some colors I'd like to try in that thread, but without names it's very difficult to find the right shade, so I thought it might be a good idea to start a list of useful nail polish names here. I'm hoping this will become a resource like the paint mixing thread.
If you have a particular color you like, post the manufacturer and the name. It would be great to post a picture of the color on a jig, as well was any notes such as whether it has glitter, pearl, how many coats it requires, whether it needs an undercoat or whatnot.
First some notes about nail polish. It does not react with powder paint, but it is NOT wormproof. It will melt soft plastic lures. You must cover it with a plastic safe epoxy if you want to use it with soft plastics. Nail polish will bubble when exposed to heat, so you must apply it AFTER curing powder paint. It WILL NOT work as an undercoat for powder paint, but will work as an undercoat for other colors of nail polish. I have not tried it with vinyl, so perhaps someone else can weigh in on that.
Brand: LA Colors
Name: Color Craze Circuits
Primary color: Gloss black
Glitter/sparkle/pearl: None
Notes: This color is a near perfect match for Pro-Tec black PP. It's so close I can't tell the difference. If you don't get completely even coverage on the first dip, there's no need to re-dip and risk drips from too much paint on the head. It's a true solid black, only one coat required. Here are some before and after shots:
