This one came straight out of the new Fly Tyer magazine!! Gonna have to get some closouser eyes to make it heavy enough for the spinning rod, as putting a set of eyes behind a jig head looks really dumb!!!

The inner wrap is the core material of the mylar. You tie the eyes on
wrap a piece of the inner core for each side of the fly and tie at the tail -
Mylar lays flat over the top and the ends teased out for the tail.

These are gonna be a nice addition to my fly box!!

Doug I like those a lot :) I think they will work on many different species of fish. When I seen them in the mag they got my attention quickly.

As the auther of that article states, the fly was originated by Charlie Cypert. It is also known as a Cypert Minnow. I've used the fly for a couple of years. As stated in the article it will catch all panfish and I've caught smallmouth bass with it. I have better luck using silver or pearl mylar. The gold just don't work as well for me. I also tie in the chenille at the bend and wrap it up to and over the eyes and tie it in..............the way the recipe I have does it. I like to use green chenille........trying to get the emerald shiner look. It is a fly worth having with you.

I just used the inner core why waste it. had more gold at the time I tied them I've got to get more silver and I agree about the green it should make a killer tie. I'd also like to get some in an orange/red shade to make them look like rosy red minnows!!

But have to get some dumbell eyes to do this on a jig hook, like I said above adding eyes behind a jig head looks really dumb!!

I'm not sure how the inner core will hold up in the water.........I've never tried it. For some reason it don't look like it will hold up that well. Ever since you can only buy certified minnows in NYS.........some of the rosy red minnows have showed up for sale. They are not as good as the emerald shiners. Emerald shiners have become very scarse at times...........the times you need them and want them.

Not sure how it will hold up either but I'll find out, I thought about chenille but thought it would be bulky, have some floating yarn I might try and with dumb bell eyes it might slow the drop rate and act like a suspending jerk bait!! MAYBE??? Gonna be fun to find out.

It's the same way in Vermont - the first time we were camping and my nephew and I bought minnows the guy says I have to give you a permit I was like "WHAT"!!! What happens if I have a minnow umbrella and catch them where I'm fishing??? Better be able to prove it but after talking to some of the wardens there's nothing about that only if you catch your own you can only use them in the body of water that you took them from.
