I've been playing around with some mylar cord a friend gave me. You have to cut it to length, then pull the cotton cord out of the center of the weaved mylar. I then threaded the mylar on my hook and secured it behind the head with thread wraps and whip finishes. I frayed the mylar up to a certain point and thread wrapped to keep it from fraying further.

Scott,
I like the color combinations you tied. Working with mylar reminds me of a fly I've tied called a Rattle Rouser. It's tied with a small glass rattle tied onto the the hook shank, and then mylar is used to cover and secure the rattle. Epoxy on the mylar finishes the fly.

You might be able to fit a small glass rattle behind your jig head and use the mylar as well. It would give you a little wider profile and may be a good baitfish imitation.

The milar does give the jig a lot of flash. I've also used it in combination with marabou and other tail materials. That way you can have a little movement in the water plus the flash. I've seen the little glass rattles. I may give that a try.

I betcha those'll more than work. I dunno about that trolling thing yall do, but sometimes I can't move my jig, AT ALL, and I've found that jigs with more flash to 'em are better at those times than something that has a lot of movement. New with tying, I used to would clip have the plastic strands off my tubes and hit a plain led head with a nail file til it shined.
The beauty of creating your own for fishing! Bet that thing shines like both our heads!
Kinda reminds me of bigger versions of the metal slivers I get in my hands from metal grinding.
JUST MIGHT WORK.
See ya, Scott.

For what it's worth, the last issue of Crappie World had what they call 12 best jigs ever and this was one of them. From what I have read Earl Brink who makes them is one of the long lining guru, taught some of the Magnolia Crappie Club how to long line after taking their money in some of their tourneys.
