Aside from tiny jigs and bucktail streamers I have never tried tying an actual fly pattern. This is my fifth attempt of the evening at a Black Ghost. I didnt have any Jungle Cock but used some black hackle tips in their place.

What do you'all think?

Looks good to me - i tend to lay a thin coat of thread seal (nail polish) over the tinsel ribbing just to be safe for patterns like that. It will get bit, has the correct profile!

Mr Jay you need to post a few pictures of your streamers. Very nice Black Ghost like the way you wrap the head. Two thumbs up.

Thanks all for the kind words.

I could only find a couple picts of my streamers on this computer. The bucktail streamers are pretty simple compared to some of the flies some guys tie. I tied the black ghost for a fella at work who was pretty impressed. I lived five years in the heart of the Catskills and during that time never got into fly fishing - The problem of my misspent youth.

Mr. Jay a misspent youth??? No just a experience that hasn't been done yet. I have done a lot of things in my life and still have a lot that I want to do. At 65 I still want to learn and do different things. I want to use ever ounce of energy right up until the last minute. Never give up , never do less than you are capable of doing. All ways do the best that you can do.

So I have spent a couple weeks practicing. Once I thought I made a decent fly I actually read some directions in popular tying books and checked out a couple YouTube videos. This was a mistake and I found the next few I tied looked useable but awful. After a couple dozen Black Ghost I purchased a Mickey Finn from a local Orvis and attempted to copy that. All have been tied using a Mustad Limerick #8 hook. In this photo the top fly in each column are Orvis bought. Here are the results:

These are real nice and they would crush the walleye up north.
