Couple of years ago I had a tough time buying into the electric chicken combo, but i will say it has become one of my top two combos in catch rate.Out of my two home lakes one is very clear and one is not :P Having a range of chicken colors has been a big help...

Love to see some of your variations as well.

All look good! Really like the chenille on the last jig - got a name for it?

And.... what exactly is the criteria for an elec chx :jig: - looks like a combo of chart/pink? I'm game to make up something, just got some flo. red chenille that will pass for pink. :P

Great tyes. Have to tye some and force myself to give them a try. I'm pretty hard headed and seem to always tie on the same thing.

Bein' a Yankee from up north of the Mason-Dixon line I've never heard of the Electric Chicken. I ran a google search. Holy Crow! It's like the THE crappie jig pattern of the century!!

RadTexan in your first post you mention that the EC is one of two of your top producing patterns. What's the other pattern that works for you?

See, just to make sure I adhere to the lineage of jig tying, I shall proclaim that I will tie an EC!! That is after I tie about 17 dozen of Eastern Dry Flies. Cuz, trout season is only 2 months away here in Pee-Aye!!

My # 1 combo for the last 20 + years has been a Black /Chart... But it better pick up the pace or it may get demoted

Matter of fact took all the chickens out for swimmin lessons today. All of the colors caught today(fished nothing but EC) but there was a clear winner.100+ fish,12 nice ones getting ready to meet a filet knife and one HOG....Ill get some pics up shortly :bigfish:

Don't leave us hangin.....What one was the winner??????
Well the more I thought about it last night,I cant quite determine the criteria to award a winner..
The backwards and pale were almost equal in the most fish category.
THE EC caught the most keepers ( only by one)
and The "Bold chicken" was second in number of keeps ,but brought in the 4 biggest fish of the day...

Moral of the story is try this combo. The clearer the water the paler versions tend to do better, the more off color it is more color is needed.

Big fish of the day..right at 2#

Nice bunch of fish - that one is a true slab!

Thanks for the offer on the chenille, i may take you up on it. First, i'm going to try and make some custom dubbing from chart. rabbit fur and mix some cut blue flash into it. Also have purple tinsel i think would look good, but not sure i can dub with the tinsel.

Very nice looking jigs RT. I had never heard of the Electric Chicken pattern before. I'm surprised it has not been utilized here near Lake Erie where we are all about our crazy color combos for spinner blades on crawler harnesses for walleyes, (Pink Panties, Chicken Wing, Monkey Puke just to name a few). The Electric Chicken combo would surely be killer in Lake Erie for walleye lures and spinner blades on perch spreaders. I'm gonna have to play around with that. I will also have to tye up some EC jigs for steelhead as well. I could see them being very effective when the water is running dirty.

In my discussions with a guy who's fished Electric Chicken for awhile, the "original" combo is pink and chartreuse with blue and silver accent. I typically leave the blue out, but some silver flash in the tail of a pink/chart jig looks good.
Last weekend, I put a lot of fish on ice with an EC jig. My basic combo I like is chartreuse head, pink (Crazy Angler's "Alien" is my current favorite) body, and chartreuse tail.

I used to would fish nothing but the ec panfish assasins with a pink or blue head in clearER water (not alot of "clear" water here) and it's stayed in the box since.
Most clear water sunny days have people thinking "natural", I think of chickens on jumper cords, ha. But I don't catch a lot of fish either!
If you get into any combo of pink and some fl yellow or green, you can chalk it up as electric chicken in my book. pink or blue heads always worked.
Awesome ties RT, I wish I had some of that chenille from the 3rd pick.
Enjoy the supper, or breakfast, b/c there's some pigs in there.
