..... bought me a new fishing rod for my birthday. Soooooo, I thought I would give it a try this morning. No crappie, but I caught eight of these, then lost my jig and a hog. I think I'll keep Mel around awhile longer!!!!

Happy Birthday! WTG on the new rod and fish. What rod is that?

I went LMB fishing for the first time today. Got a 14.5 incher on a pumpkin 5" Yamamoto paddle tail senko. Some guy saw me stinkin up the lake and offered to rig me up. First cast...bang lol.

Had the reel since my dad passed, 40th anniversary Johnson Century. Been waiting on a casting rod to put it on...

Thanks for the comments and the birthday wishes guys. Actually tomorrow is the day, but Mel and I went shopping yesterday and she surprised me with it. The reel belonged to my dad before he passed away and he never used it. I have been looking for a light action casting rod for it a looooooong time. Most companies only build them in spinning. The reel will go either way, but I wanted it on top. Yes FM, it is the 40th Anniversary Johnson Century, sweet little reel. Allstar put a new rod in their line up this year that fits the bill...

Those Century's caught a lot of fish in the late 60's - 70's for me, great reel and I still have an original that still works as well as it's big brother, the Citation. Also had a 710 and an Accucast but those got lost in the shuffle. Your's looks a lot nicer than mine. I keep mine for the grandkids, easier for them to cast than open faced spinning.

I saw a Johnson Century reel in the pawn shop today on an old rod that wasn't any count, but the reel looked almost as good as yours Jigman. I think they wanted $30 though.
